Coming home again
I'm been coming back to La Paz a couple of times now. First arriving there the first time, then after mountaineering, after the jungle trip and in the end after the little roundtrip down to Potosi and Sucre. The main reason is that all the transport goes from or to La Paz...
And the last time, on sunday it was almost like coming home again : )
All the noise, streetmarkets, steep streets, hustle and bustle and so on is good fun every time!
I'm not gonna write much now, when I had a good introduction last time (see "The highest capital in the world)
I spent the last days here organising a little bit. Mailing home some stuff I didn't need anymore, updated you on the blog, and watched the Champions League final with a good bunch of entusiastic englishmen : )
I checked out the nightlife one night and went biking on the "Worlds most dangerous road" (I gonna write an own entry about this, but I need to find a computer that can upload the pictures... )
Change in plans My main plan was to go from Rurrenabaque to
Trinidad, and then down to Villa Tunari. Outside of this village it was a voluntaire work I wanted to do.
But on the 4th of may they had a referendum in Santa Cruz for autonomy to this part. I talked to some people in Sorata and was recomended to not go to this area at all. In worst case, they said, it could be a civil war in Bolivia!
So I skipped my plans and did the little roundtrip to Potosi and Sucre instead, and I will have some more time in Peru, where I'm heading soon.
The situation at the moment seems to be ok down there and I actually think that everything will be fine. But it's not worth taking too big risks!
(So instead I went biking on the death road ; ) )
The prisons in Bolivia Last time I wrote about my visit in San Pedro Prison in La Paz, and the conditions there which is not the same standards as in Europe.
This week I could read about 3 Norwegian girls who was taken for cocain-smuggling and placed in a prison i Cochabamba.
One of the girls even had a
2 year old child with here.
In bolivia the prisoners have to be in jail until the lawsuit and this can take everything from 3-4 month to a couple of years!
The girsl was stopped with some bags with hidden cocain, which they said they didn't knew about. They bought the bags here they said.
It's a quit dramatic situation for them, so lets hope their actually innocent and can get out as soon as possible! At least the two year old kid!!
My first loss of money I think I got my first loss of money on the trip so far... I used the minibank the other day, and the first withdraw didn't work. This happens sometimes when it's not possible to take out that amount of money or something. But it was a strange message on the screen: Your transaction is recorded..... I tried again with a smaller amount, and it worked. So I though everything was ok. But when I checked my account today, I saw that I had to transactions on that day, so I think the money is gone.....
But, if this is the only "accident" I gonna have during 8 months
I've been quit lucky anyway : )
And I haven't been in a armed robbery so far...
Anyway, just some more pictures from La Paz you can enjoy, and a report from the biking will hopefully come out soon!
I'm heading for Lake Titicaca next, before entering Peru in the end of the week!
