as a good bye to civilization.
3rd day in la paz, a city that by reading this right now, you are now legally obligated to move here next year with us. Donīt worry, you won't regret it. Cheapest, craziest, most beautiful city we have seen yet.
Of course, If it's so darn great, you must be wondering, why are me and Lycia at a computer terminal right now instead of giggling at adorable old indian women sitting high atop their street fruit stands in hats that would make any 1920īs era gangster green with envy. I'll give you 3 guesses, and if the first one is not that a strike has shut down the entire city, you have not been paying attention.
New country, same excitement...with one problem for us...the workers are gathering in one part of town at 3800 meters to march to another area in the city at 4100 meters. Sorry, Bolivians, when your riot climbs 1000 feet in 2 kilometers you even lose Jeff and Lycia proffesional riot whores tm. We were going to eat quinoa spaghetti with a coca bechamel sauce at the fanciest restaurant in town (6 bucks) now we are just hoping we have enough water to last until the stores reopen in 7 hours. Always a bright side, the streets are empty and I now consider the entire town my personal amusement park.
BTW, we in New Orleans are officially pussies. With the federal government and insurance companies still taking turns screwing us over we are really due for a city shutdown. Let the country know what is going on still...it would be huge...and would never happen. Sometimes I feel we in America deserve our stupid lot, as little as we are willing to stand up for ourselves. It is pretty inspiring here, regardless of the inconveniences.
Anyway, we are off in a boat up a river and through the rainforest tomorow. 3 days of my kind of camping and hiking...the kind where everything is done for us, all we need is our sleeping bags and liquor. From what i understand the mosquitos and pirhana will be battling for our blood, so I figure cheap Bolivian firewater will be our great equalizer in the battle. The cityish part of our trip is over and the action packed adventure sport era is beginning. Updates will come and I am sure pictures will not be included.
Well, all i know about river travel I learned from watching Apocolypse now, so while in theory you will be hearing from us in a few days, there is a possiblity that Lycia will go mad and start chopping the heads off natives while making them worship her. We shall see.
