25th December, Christmas in Copacabana

We had gone to bed so early that we ended up at 4am - not by choice! We pulled open the curtains and the views onto the lake even at that time were stunning. It was very strange not to be waking up with our families and not to have any presents. However, Jake surprised me with my very own personalised selection box which consisted of 6 of my favourite chocolate bars which he´d got last minute from the market and some wooley stripey gloves as it was cold down by the lake.

We stayed up till after 6am scoffing Snicker bars waiting to see the sun rising from our bed room window, but were gutted when we realised we were facing the wrong way to see it. We had breakfast at the hotel then went out to book our trip to the isla del sol for the next day and also booked a bus trip to lapaz for a few days after.

We strolled around the markets and bought some popcorn style snack which seemed very popular amongst the locals. It was strange wandering around copacabana in the heat, in comparison to the normal cold weather back home.

We called home then made our way to the beach, we had such a giggle in a peddle boat we took out on the lake. Ours was the worst boat and squeaked the whole time with all the locals on their boats starring at us. Jake ended up peddling out too far, some local fisherman waved at us to head back, which i firstly mistook as them blowing me kisses.

We relaxed on the packed beach for a while, then went for a stroll to an inca chair which was rubbish. It was shut and surrounded in dog dirt.

We went for lunch and instead of the usual turkey opted for fresh trout from the lake.

That evening to end our christmas going for what we thought was an italian, it ended up being a huge mistake with Jake being ill for dyas after with food poisoning. The restaurant to us had looked busy, well lit and played some really good music. But unfortunatley the food was disgusting, we waited over half an hour before our food came and when it came, Jakes steak was cold shrivelled up and covered in a creamy sauce instead of the salsa he had ordered. we should have known better but we were so sick of waiting that we just ate our meals, before heading back to the hotel to watch elf!
