After La Paz we traveled 8 hours south to Cochabamba arriving fairly late at 9pm and then the usual lovely walk around trying to find somewhere to stay. Luckily it was a safe enough place and we stayed in a nice place where the owner gave us loads of local advice telling us where’s safe and places to stay away from.
Cochabamba doesn’t have much to offer and we only used it as a place to break up our journey to Sucre. We only stayed 2 nights and the highlight, well for Michelle anyway was possibly the largest market we have ever been too and that’s saying something, as some of the ones in Asia were huge! The place went on and on and is probably the first place we have found within the year that you could virtually buy everything you could ever need! Surprisingly we didn’t buy much as there was just too much choice and wasn’t in the mood to walk around.
The only other thing we did was go to a local bar and watch Bolivia get kicked out of the Copa America against their local rivals Peru. I have been watching a lot of
the games and it’s been good for lots of goals but the teams playing have been looking a bit pants and it will probably be a Brazil and Argentina final so a bit boring for the other countries!
Next up was Sucre for another 10 hour bus journey, the bus was nice enough but one thing about Bolivia are the roads are shit so we were bumping along most of the way which is piss poor for sleeping! I managed more sleep than Shell as she looked a bit rough when I woke up and she wasn’t happy until we got in a comfy bed in the hotel! The hotel, the Grand hotel was posh for our standards and another 10 pound a night jobby but well worth it and perfect after the bus ride and as soon as we hit the pillows we were a sleep again for a few more hours.
Sucre is a pretty city and the first colonial style building we have seen in Bolivia. Its just a shame there is not too much to do. The only main attraction is the world’s largest collection of dinosaur tracks which I was looking forward to
Dried meat anyone!Look in the background and you can see a rubbish tip! The meat was covered in flies, would you like to buy!
seeing. To view the tracks was a bit poor as they are about 400m away on a vertical wall out of touching distance. The reason they are on a vertical wall is because the tracks were original left on a muddy lake bed which eventually hardened and over millions of years due to tectonic plate movement ended up vertical. Either that or majority of dinosaurs were like spider man and could walk up walls! The park itself was great for kids and me as they had huge life size replica dinosaurs so you could get an idea of what they looked like and their size looming over you.
One of the other highlights for Sucre were the hand made chocolate, Michelle was in heaven and bought shit loads!! I have had my fair share so can't complain!
Fairground rideBolivia equvilant of Blackpools Cat and Mouse. It was going very fast and looked very dodgy!! Unfortunately I didnt get chance to go on it as I was on the way to the bus station.
what a shock! Here it was in the shop window bold as brass! On closer inspection it was covered in dust and after asking the guy what it was he had no idea! No surprises there!! I just love it!
