Dinosaur Footprints
If you look hard enough you can see them Day 249 - Monday 26 May
We arrived into Sucre about 8 ish in the morning. As were almost 3000m above sea level I´d expected it to be really cold but I´m surprised at how warm it is.
I'd found some cheap accommodation on the internet so we took a taxi over. Unfortunately there wasn't room for all of us so we said goodbye to Gary and Bart who went to look for something nearby and waited to check in. We have to wait until midday which is a bit of a pain as I´d hoped to have a lie down for a couple of hours. The road last night had been unpaved so had been too bumpy to get some proper uninterupted sleep. Interestingly I´m coping ok with it which shows that when people say their too old to go out and get up early the next day, its a load of rubbish. Their just out of practice.
After checking in we went to look at the local market. I wasn´t too impressed, it was pretty rubbish, mostly selling batteries, radios, calculators and tv remote controls. I don´t need any of them. Russ and Pa wanted to
get something to eat at the market but I didn´t fancy the look of anything there. Luckily I bumped into Gary and Bart so joined them for a late lunch in a western cafe.
Its a public holiday today to celebrate Independance Day which means that most of the city is shut up. With not much else to do I joined them for an extended lunch. It seems that their struggling to cope with Pa. Shes doing their heads in so their quite glad their staying in a different hostel. By contrast I seem to be coping quite well now.
I agreed to join them for some more drinks at 8 o´clock, so went for a bit of an exploration of the town, before checking my emails. I´ve got a reply from Asunta, shes having problems with her phone but wants to meet up tomorow. Typical I get it the day after I leave town.
At eight I joined Gary and Bart in the pub for a few beers. I´d only intended going for an hour but somehow still stayed there until midnight. I´d said it had been warm earlier but walking back at night it was
absolutley freezing. Maybe I´ll go back to Santa Cruz after all.
Day 250 - Tuesday 27 May
This morning we headed out to see some dinosaur footprints at a nearby cement works where they were discovered. It costs us 10 Bolivianas (80p) to get there and back plus a further 30 (2 pounds) to visit the museum thats been built there. Everybody in the group moaned it was a load of rubbish, but I don´t see what their problem is. We´ve passed the whole morning for only a couple of quid and got to see genuine dinosaur footprints rather than casts. Thats not something you see everyday. I don´t know what else they expected.
After returning to town around lunchtime, I left Russ and Pa to get lunch at the market whilst I splashed out 50p more and went to a proper resturant. We met up again and went for a stroll in one of the nearby parks. Its a hot day and as I was feeling a bit thirsty I bought myself a bottle of coke. It cost me about 6p. I think its the cheapest I´ve ever paid in my whole life. Even as a
child I don´t remember it being that cheap. You´ve got to love Bolivian prices. Even though I´ve been travelling nearly 8 months already and don´t have much money left, I reckon I could still stay out for another year if I just stayed in Bolivia.
As we had time to kill we went to visit a museum by the main plaza. It was here that the treaty of Independance from the Spanish was signed and you can still see the origional inside. Its worth a visit for a quid.
Its mothers day today here in Bolivia and to celebrate theirs a free music concert in the main plaza playing local music. To be honest I wasn´t all that impressed. Its all that panpipe music but I´ve heard better outside shopping centres back home at christmas time. Now it was after dark its also cold so instread we abandoned the concert and went to the cinema.
