Decided to take an afternoon bus to El Chalten from El Calafate to do a couple of quick hikes to view Cerro Fitz Roy, big famous peak. My thoughts were to get there in the afternoon, make it to the top in time for sunset and come back at night, then wake up and do a different hike and watch the sunrise, then catch an afternoon bus back to El Calafate and then try to head to Chile to Puerto Natales. Those plans didn´t quite work out. It was a bright sunny day all day until I arrived in El Chalten then the clouds started rolling in. So i quickly got my room changed clothes and hit the trail hoping to beat the weather. But no luck, Patagonia finally won a round. Shortly into the hike it started sprinkling, then as I climbed higher it got really windy and turned to hail. But I kept going, did the 5 hour climb in just under 2 hours. took some pics of the clouded in peaks and the glacier lakes, ate a quick empenada then quickly ran back. Did the whole hike in 3 hours 20 minutes, the guide says 8 hours. It was nice to run again. Then the following morning when i planned to hike up again the winds were blowing 60+, heard later on that people with their packs were being knocked to the ground. Since the peaks were still clouded in i just relaxed in a cafe until my bus, made it to El Calafate just in time to catch another bus to Puerto Natales. Woke up today got on another bus to Punto Arenas where I will wait until the 15th (today is the 13th) for my flight to Santiago/Toronto/Seattle.
