Before leaving buenos aires i visited Palermo - a fairly chic neighboorhood with huge parks - and i even found a vegetarian Indian restaurant there!
Speaking of food, i heard all these things about how it would be impossible to be a vegetarian in Argentina because theres so much meat. And there is a lot of meat, but theres also a lot of pizza, pastas, and empanadas, all which can be vegetarian. Theres not a huge amount of variety -its a lot of tomato and cheese, but i think its easier to find vegetarian food in Argentina than in Canada.
On monday i took an overnight bus to Tucuman, in northern Argentina, and I can officially confirm that the 1st class busses here are way way nicer than any greyhound bus in Canada.
Tucuman seems like a nice city, although i only stayed there for one night before heading to Cafayate where i am now. Tucuman is a little calmer than Buenos Aires, and i thought it was cool that there are regular trees, palm trees, cactuses and evergreens all within a few meters of each other.
The view on the bus from Tucuman to cafayate was unbelivable. It started out
Farmers protestingThey were just handing out flyers here, but i“ve heard tell of road blocks a few weeks ago.
with mountains or foothills covered in trees and bushes etc. so that it looked almost tropical, and then it was as if the bus turned a corner on the narrow windy mountain road and all of the sudden there was a desert.
This I went on a tour of a couple Bodegas organized by the hostel, and got to taste some local wine - Cafayate is a big wine producing region. And then this afternoon, after having some wine flavoured ice cream, i went on a mini trek/tour of the Quebrada de Cafayate. Theres some really amazing scenery. Ill post pictures if i can, but all the internet cafes in this town are either on dailup or really slow cable...and i havn{t had any luck uploading pictures yet, so it might have to wait until later.
I think i{m going to leave here tomorrow and head straight up to Cochabamba in Bolivia for a week of spanish classes, because i really need them.
Edit: i“m in Salta right now, and i had about 10 hours to kill between buses, so I found an internet cafe with internet that actually works and will let me upload pictures. There“s about 5 times
as many pictures up'on facebook if you have the urge to go look at the rest.
More sceneryAfter this landscape it got dark, and i couldn“t take any more pictures from the bus

Wow Ella, Your mom told me about your blog and I am so thrilled for you! It sounds like you are having an amazing time--loved hearing about the tango club but until 12 noon the next day?? That is dance fever! Take care and let me know if someone offers you a lovely meal of guinea pig, which I hear is a very common menu item!
