Ok time to leave....flight home was in two days... first problem: I´m in Bariloche, Argentina, Flight is from santiago, chile second problem: never checked out tickets so.... after arriving in bariloche bus station at 1320, we found much to our mirth that my bus was actually at 1315....luckily the bag on bus process was heartwarmingly slow, so we made the bus intact physically but unravelled mentally! the ride through the andes was spectacular but both dave and i were incapable of appreciation...incapable of reading, and not even able to listen to music.....i spent the 5 hour journey with my forehead banging off the headrest in front while dave starred at the ceiling.... not including the hour it took to cross into chile...fucking bureaucracy meant all bags had to be removed and searched, some even had to ... read more

well i know what that means and so might one other of my precocious readers, although confusion reigns supreme in that wee head! and the minimal understanding is quite frankly all that matters....this is a church that offers my kind of religion...and the hymn sheet is packed full of sensational suprises ...so the check out capers struck again......and when the dust settled we found ourselves back in bariloche.....somehow hull integrity must be maintained to ensure safe and timely arrival in santiago for my flight abhaile on the 14th...but this shock return south has rattled the defences in that respect...the gang of wonders that we played with in san martin all headed here and we would be remiss to part from they{re kindly ways! could we drink anymore...i sure as hell don{t know, but we are learning ... read more

Our intrepid explorers were at it again, barrelling down the off-piste with reckless abandon! this time we were joined by 3 more daring boarders, who happily shared and encouraged our love for inventing crazy runs where once was trees and gully's before! led down dazzling directions by Jeff (crazy drunk yank) and Dave (robust), Sam (shankhill born, rared and blinded), Sylvia (impressively Norwegian) and I (utterly flawless) had our work cut out....but when you are skimming across deep powder the cartwheel and tree altercations just don´t hurt! It snowed the night before and the temperature above the clouds was +20 degrees...so it was t-shirts, cold drinks and sun tans all round... ....come 5pm did we stop, hell no, we just swapped the slopes for the south bar and charged our way through the extensive range of ... read more

definitely off piste....after some sociable hoots in the gondelas and ski lifts we were in fine form on the slopes especially after the monsterous dump of snow over the last few days....post hot boxing, its what yellow lensed googles were made for...i´m gradually improving, having lost all sense off fear, and proving quite willing to "give ´er..." well there is, afterall, just one speed! ...if only dave wasn´t so alarmed! so after a morning of spped, we decided to head off piste....god only knows why I was leading that crazy expedition....we found out shortly after....mindless, reckless adventure was the answer, I managed to lead us off-off piste and into a ravine, of which down, far down, was the only means of escape....look at the map....far right, two black dashed lines, notice the tree filled gourge between ... read more

does anyone wanna play 100 club at mid-day...cause the (strange) folk in our hostel sure don't want to...how is one supposed to nuture alcoholic tendencies when the masses fail to encourage you...oh, i guess thats actually what real drinking is all about, desperation, loneliness, status, popularity and all that...Never get out of the boat. Absolutely goddamn right. Unless you were goin' all the way. they got off the boat, and they split from the whole fuckin' program....lucky we didn't let that put us off so! Their idea of great R&R is cold rice and a little rat meat. We have only two ways home: death, or victory....and its all in the bottom of a bottle!... read more

Birthday celebrations, alcohol and memories, well, two outa three aint bad... ´fraid the memories fell by the wayside, must of gone in search of my attitude...although my attitude didn´t fall by the wayside, it was down the toilet playing with my disgraced tequila´s!! found a bastion of assorted mexican food...and...er....drank....liquid starters, liquid mains....liquid brain....drinking refreshment pouring from the skies in great abundance. On occasion, one loses his balance, and falls to the floor ...not enough sense to stay out of the rain. one tequila, two tequila, three tequila, floor (repeat, repeat again, repeat some more and fade...) so all in all it was a success! those of you who have experienced my condition on birthdays will be well aware of the full range of possibilities the description ´success´could possibly entail! "But if you try sometimes you ... read more

Finances = Very Green Fitness = Almost Red Relationship = Green Arguments = Zero Greetings from Argentina! For those of you who missed the KPI´s last time, they are back. Not that they all look good, we´ll explain later. The last fortnight has been a game of two halves. One week in Chile, the other in Argentina. Both countries have been fabulous and people are so helpful and friendly. This is especially good as very little English is spoken and we need lots of patience when trying to speak Spanish. We have, however, picked up some essential phrases including "Do you have a hairdryer?" and "Is there anywhere to dry our clothes?"!!! We left Santiago on the nightbus amid great excitement of almost fully reclining seats. Especially nice was the bus attendant who put a pillow ... read more

Border Crossing

Made it down to Bariloche through some beautiful scenery in the south of Argentina. Bariloche is located near the border of Chile on the Argentinian side of the Andes mountian range in Patagonia. The town looks a bit like Aspen with wood and stone buildings, ski stores on every corner, and big snow capped mountians in the background. The town was fairly small and located on a huge lake about 20 minutes from the main Catedral ski resort. I checked into this one hostel for the first night and just relaxed....made some pasta, met a few english and canadian girls and we rented a movie and stayed by the fire for the night (I know that sounds cheesy but it was really cold and I needed to get adjusted to the temps). Unfortunately due to a ... read more

We arrived yesterday in Bariloche to much colder weather than in Buenos Aires! But what a great town! Looks like some towns in Colorado-- Big lake surrounded by mountains covered in snow. It's really pretty. It started raining in the afternoon, through the night and this morning, but that hasn't stopped us from enjoying the stores, restaurants and sceanic tours. A tour bus picked us up at 8:30 am this morning for a city tour. We went up to Cerro Cathedral--big mountain--and toured the ski resort, had lunch, rode the ski lift, and drove through the national park. Oh my. What scenery! And it was snowing!! And the tour ended with a tour through the chocolate factory. Bought a few samples for later... We'll post our great pictures on the next blog. All the gear we ... read more
