Insgesamt 12 Tage haben wir bei unserem 1. Ausflug in Argentinien verbracht.

From La Serena we took a bus to Santiago. In Santiago we changed to an overnight bus headed for Pucon. We arrived there in the morning, took a cab to Ruka Rayen, a rural hostel about a half hour away. It is run by Peter and Margot. There are actually two separate hostels. The other is on the land of Margot’s mother. Margot’s family is Mapuche, people indigenous to Southern Chile and Argentina. They barely survived the genocide of the invading Spaniards. Margot and her mother work to keep their traditions and values alive. Margot is very environmentally aware and wants her daughter, Charlotte, to inherit land that is healthy and beautiful. She raises much of what they eat and prepared simple and delicious food for us, including homemade bread prepared with quinoa. They have chickens ... read more

After 4 years it was time to visit my first home! El Bolson, Rio Negro, Argentina. "La hermosa Patagonia" So I left Dave and Maverick behind for 2 1/2 weeks on April 14th. I arrived in San Carlos de Bariloche on the 15th in the afternoon and my welcoming committee was my Dad Carlos, sister Maria and my adorable nephew Julian. As those of you who know me well you can imagine it was an emotional reunion specially as I had not seen my Dad in 4 years. After the hugs and the tears stopped I was straight back into Argentine life. Off to the supermarket to get food and wine to celebrate on our way to Maria's house. I have not been to Maria's house before so was delighted to find a really cosy and ... read more

Day 180 cont....El Bolson: Far out When I got to the bus station, I saw that there was a bus due to depart one minute later, and so after a very quick decision, I found myself on my way to the nearby town of El Bolson. The trip past lakes and over mountains was really scenic, and it was a beautiful day for it. I arrived in El Bolson two hours later, where it was unseasonably warm and almost t-shirt weather. I wandered the streets looking for accomodation, and having tried one place and taken a wrong turn, I stumbled upon a small house-turned-hostel a few blocks from the centre of town, and checked into a dorm there. I'm not sure if it's a good sign that the hostel dog, a permanent fixture outside the building, ... read more

El Bolson is a hippie town near Bariloche. We arrive to town to visit the market which happens on Saturday and maybe go on a trek in the area. Before the market we went to eat some pizza (Yael was very hungry and REFUSED to shop before eating). In a small place near the market we ate the best pizza on the trip so far. As it was still a holiday the market was really big and colorful with lots of vendors and shoppers. After shopping for a whole afternoon we decided a trek called ¨Hielo Azul¨ (blue ice) would be our next adventure. The ¨Hielo Azul¨trek is a 3 day trek to a glacier and to see the azul river which is crystal clear. The first two days of the trek were a bit disappointing ... read more

So we´ve left Bariloche for a weekend trip to El, Bolson - just a couple of hours south. Still amazed at how wonderful the busses are here- the ride here is pleasant with continued amazing mountain views. Unfortunately it´s Easter weekend meaning everyone and their dog is coming to El Bolson and so hostels are all booked up. Luckily we had booked a couple of dorm beds at the local youth hostel but decide to walk around and try and check for any last minute openings before settling down to hosteldom. An hour and 6 "no rooms" later we resign to our place at the youth hostel. El Bolson we were told was full of "pot smokin hippies." I don´t know about that but you can see why it´s charming. It´s got a laid back feeling ... read more

As places go I think Bariloche is a great place to land on your first stop in Argentina. It is on the western coast in the province of Rio Negro & is a thriving tourist spot for both foreigners & Argentinians. It has it all.....a great town with chocolate shops everywhere....seriously every second shop specializes in chocolate & there are loads of ice-cream parlours too. And the displays are amazing. Food, chocolate & ice-cream presentation is an art that the Argentinians have mastered. The mouth salivates now as I think back to it. However we trade this all for colder weather too. Gloves & hats are important if you want to defend yourself against the bitter chill once night falls....& sometimes the breeze during the day can pack a punch too. We arrived on the Tuesday ... read more

Eng version below Od tygodnia przebywam w El Bolson. Podroz z Jujuy do El Bolson autobusem trwa 40 godzin. Jutro jedziemy do Patagonii, do El Ca... read more
