Background: Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation.

Do cile jsme dorazili kratce pred druhou hodinou odpoledni. Puerto Iguazu je mestecko na argentins [View Full Entry]

After a nightmare bus journey from Rio to Puerto Iguazu (30 hrs with 2 unsheduled bus changes) we were in good spirits arriving to our hostel, the hostel inn. The hostel is fab, has its own pool and the bar stays open 24hrs although on the first night I was too shattered to have anything more than a 7up! Very like me I know! The next day we decided to take it easy and slept in, then took a cab to the Brazilian side of the Iguaçu falls. It was amazing. There are 275 falls along 2.7 kilometres (1.67 miles) of [View Full Entry]

Hola from Argentina! Well lets see,we left Foz in Brazil and crossed over the border to Puerto Iguazu. I must say what a simple border crossing it was none of this walking for miles in no mans land between immigrations as we did in Asia, you just get on a bus and off to get your passport stamped, lovely and stress free for me! We stayed at a hostel called Hostel Inn its inbetween the falls and the town. It was like a mini resort in Spain, the pool was amazing and there was 2 bars and a restaurant,it was pretty cool. I got to Puerto Iguazu, the town near Iguazu Falls yesterday. The hostel I am staying at here is great (supposedly the best in Argentina), so I spent yesterday at the pool having fun. Today I went to the Argentine side of the falls. First I had a ride through the jungle in a 4x4, which was a little boring, but it's nice to be back in the jungle. Then a boat ride through some rapids, and then into some of the falls (not all the way in, but pretty close). Everybody got soaking wet, and it was great fun. After [View Full Entry]

Right....finally - my first entry after nearly 3 weeks of travelling all down south in argentina...but if i don't start writing here at the end of the world, i probably never will...but you know travelling is a job in itself, and one has hardly any time. feel like the white rabbit.. (or maybe im just lazy) so, after a really, really long flight to buenos aires via sao paolo i decided not to stay in BA but to head straight to the iguazu falls - that meant after getting off the plane getting straight onto a bus for 20hrs! but beware, [View Full Entry]

You would believe that most travelers are gone in February because the peak of the high season is passed. But this is counting without the Argentinians who are on vacation at that time of the year and do travel in their country, and as a matter of fact, the majority travel mostly only in their country right now due to the economic situation they are facing & their money not allowing them to travel abroad, not even to the neighboring countries of Chile and Brazil. I had met a lot of Argentinian travelers after about two weeks of traveling by myself, [View Full Entry]

Water water everywhere!
Starting to feel more like the heat of the tropics now as we are at the north tip of Argentina and have finally reached one of the high points of the trip - Iguazu Falls. In the last episode, we had just arrived in Mercedes and spent the night in a hostel room which had been converted from what would usually function as the bar (most of the bottles were empty so the idea of a Contreu nightcap had to be abandoned). We ended up paying for a package for the national park which included 2 nights accomodation, breakfast, 2 hour [View Full Entry]

So the next few days get a bit bitty ... remember that we were in Peru ... after the Inca trail? Day 33 - February 2nd 2008 - Cusco, Peru These bl**dy blogs take some time you know (Lizzy says Nathan is starting to swear too much). Today was a blog day. However - today was also one of those days where it was raining ... and there had been lunchtime alcohol involved. We watched that England game - in an Irish bar - with a stupid Irish girl who´s main focus was to wind Nathan up. I don´t use the [View Full Entry]
