The drive from Salta was not as bad as I was antiscipating. With my large quantity of music and Ron Burgundy to keep me company the two days were over very quickly. I am definately getting used to long journeys and the first of the two days which was 14 hours was actually not that bad. As for camping behind a service station for the night, well, that was an experience. We made such good time on the first day that we got to San Ignacio at around lunch time the following day. This was where we were meant to be [View Full Entry]

Paradise?
This last Monday I woke up sleepy eyed at 5 AM to prepare for my short side trip to Iguazu Falls, which included the following… - 10 min. taxi to airport - 90 min. flight towards northern Argentina - 20 min. shuttle from airport to hostel - 15 min. bus ride from hostel to Iguazu national park - Experiencing the jungles & enormous waterfalls… Priceless Where to begin in explaining the amazing landscape of Iguazu Falls is beyond me. I took numerous pictures, but although they came out clear as possible, they just don’t do justice. I can only say that [View Full Entry]

Water! We need it. Scientists now estimate that we could be up to 8% water or something. And it's scarce! That's right, go turn the tap off, we need it for things as vital and diverse as: * Washing the cat * Making milk out of milk powder * Showering after getting covered in paint when painting the garage door (though you may want to use White Spirit first). Yes, it´s important stuff alright, and it's running out. And here´s why: A dirty great hole in the very fabric of the earth's upper mantley crust in Argentina, Brazil and Paraguay (it´s [View Full Entry]

Any weekend that starts out with nearly being kicked out of an airport Duty Free Shop is bound to be fun no matter what else happens. If they don't want you to take pictures of yourself trying on hats, they should post a sign, really. Anyhow, I spent the last weekend with my friend Sebastian in the semi-tropical rainforest that is the province of Missiones. Missiones is home to Iguazu National Park, the site of the largest waterfalls in the world. We arrived in time for dinner on Friday. The hotel was much nicer than I had imagined. The best part [View Full Entry]

I Heart Iguazu

I love Iguazu falls! It is brilliant and beautiful and wonderful and fabulous!!!! I was especially excited about visiting them as I´d just seen Indiana Jones go over them in the new film! The falls themselves are on the border of Argentina and Brazil, so you can visit on both sides. Although I was in Argentina, I visited the Brazilian side first as the general consensus seemed to be that if you visited it 2nd then you were a bit disappointed after the Argentinian side. The weather in Brazil was a bit rubbish to start off with, then eventually the sky [View Full Entry]

Some blue sky at last!
more views!

From other travellers, I've heard anything between "It´s the most beautiful thing I've ever seen" and "It's just a couple of waterfalls, why do you want to go there?". I found myself to be somewhere in between: it's probably not the most beautiful thing I've ever seen (although just now, I can't think what the most beautiful thing I've seen is - maybe I'm just hard to impress) - but it is definitely beautiful, impressive, powerful, impressive. And it is definitely just huge. I´m adding some pictures, but pictures just never express it right - I would totally recommend going yourself! [View Full Entry]

Garganta del Diabolo

Garganta del Diabolo from far

Arriving at Iguacu, we are exhausted - the flat beds still don’t exactly provide luxurious sleep! Nevertheless, on day 1 we venture into the park and head straight for the Devil’s throat - the largest waterfall in the park - in it, 1,800 cubic meters of water per second hurtle over a 3km semicircle of rock into the boiling river canyon below. The next day we move hotels to stay at the Sheraton which is actually based inside the park and from our balcony we have a stunning view of the Devil’s throat! Today we tour the park on a 4*4 [View Full Entry]

Garganta Del Diablo.
Garganta Del Diablo.
The most beautiful waterfall I´ve ever seen. The power was just incredible!
Warning. The following blog contains images of water cascading over edifices. A lot of images of that sort. Sorry, but that´s why you go to a national park which contains dozens of sets of falls. I bet it´s cooler in person, so just try to imagine yourself at the mercy of natures most dangerous weapon: sheer beauty. Haha I have to start blogs that cornily more often. I arrived in Argentina from Brazil....tired, hungry cuz I was holding out for the cheaper food in Argentina (travelling turns you into a money-conscious freak), and eager to see some waterfalls! The national park [View Full Entry]

Don´t be all up in my face with that water.
Got the camera a bit wet here...don´t need to ruin another one.
