Iguazú National Park Travel Blogs

Background: Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation.

Ok guys, me made it to Iguazu Falls (Iguazu in indigenous Guarani language means Big Water )and the name could not be more appropriate. Legend has it that a god planned to marry a beautiful aborigine named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage, the god sliced the river creating the waterfalls, condemning the lovers to an eternal fall. Nice isn´t it? Anyway, we are spending 3 nights here ( 4 days) before we make our way to Salta in the northeast. We must say that it was a bit of a culture shock after [View Full Entry]

So finally I have left Buenos Aires, but not without a fight. The plan was to leave last friday. Instead I spent last friday sick, even got to check out the clinic that my cousin uses in Bs. As. I must say that I am blessed as I had Marta and Jennifers driver Juan Carlos with me through the whole process, and after a diagonosis, xray, and ultrasound of my stomach I was charged less than $100. So that is why my insurance for traveling is so much less, it costs next to nothing to go to the hospital here compared [View Full Entry]

After another 17 hours in yet another bus, we arrived in the tropical north, at the Three Fronteras of Argentina, Paraguay y Brasil. Twelve miles upstream from this border of 3 countries, divided by the convergence of 2 rivers, is the Cataratas of Iguazu, the second largest waterfalls in the world, with sometimes as many as 200 individual falls. On the Argentinean side, open air trains took us through the jungle to an elaborate series of catwalks and footbridges, crossing above different forks of the river, and to the drop off of several of the falls. Hi everybody, Just wanted to say I really appreciate the texts and emails concerning the Peru earthquake and my whereabouts in South America. My friends and I are already over in Argentina and missed the quake by about 5 days. We actually spent some time last week where the epicenter of the quake was, and are feeling grateful to have already left. The sand dunes on my previous blog are very near the center and the picture of the sunset on the water is where around 450 people perished in the quake. We fly back to Lima on Tuesday for 1 [View Full Entry]

Yup there is one word for Iguazu Falls... WOW!! They are the most spectacular sight you will see! So incredible!! Not only to look at but the sound of rushing water is so intense. Though you can't really compare it to anything, it is like being at a really loud concert, this constant thundering sound! CRAZINESS!! We went on a fantastic boat tour down the rive and into the falls... literally unde the falls, it was incredible, almost scary! We were all absolutely drenched when we exited the boat, a change of clothes would have been nice :) We walked a [View Full Entry]

Wow. For this one I guess the pictures probably speak for themselves so perhaps I´ll just give you some stats and leave it to you to imagine the roar that you can hear from kilometres away. The name Iguaçu comes from the Guarani or Tupi words y (water) and guasú (big). Legend has it that a god planned to marry a beautiful aborigine named Naipí, who fled with her mortal lover Tarobá in a canoe. In rage, the god sliced the river creating the waterfalls, condemning the lovers to an eternal fall. The waterfall system consists of 275 falls along 2.7 [View Full Entry]

Our whole trip evolved from an attempt to plan a holiday which would take in one sight that each of us were keen to see; for Matt Machu Picchu and for me Iguasu Falls and after almost 11 months we made our way to the small town of Puerto Iguasu nearby the famous waterfalls. Arriving to a beautiful clear day with temperatures warmer than we had experienced for a while we wasted little time in a quick shower and change of clothes (we had travelled 16 hours overnight by bus) before jumping on another bus to take us the 18 or [View Full Entry]

Arrive at Puerto Iguazu bright and early in the morning - 9am, catch a cab to the hostel and have to wait while our room is being cleaned up - good opportunity to use the toilets =) Finally room is ready, hurried shower and put on some fresh clothes and head back to bus stop - 5 mins away. Book and jump onto the bus heading for Iguazu National Park. So excited to be outdoors exploring again, a liitle anxious as feel that the "Iguazu falls" will not be that great compared to the "Victoria falls" (which we've been to over [View Full Entry]
