Hello everyone, I hope that everything is going well for all of you that have recently finished the semester in Canada, and that you all had a wonderful Easter break with lots of rest, relaxation, and of course, chocolate. We actually have so many new things to write about that we keep forgetting what we’ve done and think that you already know all of our exploits and adventures, but finally we sat down and wrote a little list out of things that have been forgotten, and as well, our wonderful trip to Uruguay. So I’m here sitting in my apartment, drinking red wine, and finally writing to you all. TANGO So, once a dancer - always a dancer, in short: I have found a Tango partner and we’re ripping up the dance floors of BA. A ... read more

This is just a quick update about my trip. I have one more full day in Santiago and then I return to BsAs on Monday morning. Santiago and its surroundings have been nice too, but first I want to talk about Mendoza. Mendoza was wonderful. The weather was sunny and warm every day. The first day Emily and I walked around the town and had a picnic and walked around this huge park in Mendoza. The park is literally as big as the whole town. There's a large hill in the park with a big memorial to the Argentine army of the revolution. On Monday we rented bikes and visited some of the vineyards around the town and a wine making museum. We went to the newest vineyard and the oldest vineyard in Mendoza on the ... read more

It is Easter Weekend here in Buenos Aires. In the past few years Easter has ment little to me other than the passing of time. In the past few years after Easter passes I realize that I am getting older....I wait for the Easter egg basket but it doesn't come. I always make a point of mentioning it to my mom...hoping she will send me a belated Easter egg basket. What I get instead of lovely candies is the reply "You are too old". I realize now that I love Easter...American Easter that is. I love looking for things. I love the candy. I love dying eggs, even though I always refused to eat them. When I was little finding out that Santa didn't exist wasn't a big deal. I learned much later on in life ... read more

So I have arrived in Buenos Aires. Stayed in the V&S Hostel according to some recommendations from travellers. It is quite a chilling place. I am sitting here in BA for the second time trying to recall everything that I in a half pissed state. Oh well, I will do the best that I can. The city itself is quite spread out. I have heard all kinds of rave reviews on BA so I had high expectations. At first, I can't say the city overwhelmed me or wowed me in any way simply because I took it as another european city. But slowly it did grow on me I must admit. Random Bla Blas There are quite a few restaurants to explore in here so one has to start slow and do a thorough walkthrough. Anyway, ... read more

This weekend has been one of those perfect ones. I think you can imagine what this means to me....I even had a bit of a chance to read some of the NYTimes Sunday Magazine today. My roomates and I are growing something together. A couple of weeks ago when we all met we pulled out our little seed packets. Pushing our little pieces into the soil first. In the past couple of weeks we have been watering them with ice cream and empanadas (think part pizza part croissant). Every morning we meet around our massize living room table and see how much our tender leaves and shoots have grown. As I closed my eyes this weekend I realized that under the ground there are roots stretching their fingers in all directions......reaching for each other. We are ... read more

Luke, Jennifer Cherry, Cait, the newest addition Alice (shes from Italy so you pronounce her name Ali'ch'a) and I are sitting in our new hangout. All have been touched by a bunch of dirty faced children. Our confusion hangs over us like a heavy blanket of smoke. We are choking with watering eyes. Two little girls at one moment utterly charming and in a heart beat begging and obnoxious. One of them giving us new Spanish names. I am Leyste (Lizzz) and Cait is Keys. She wrote us little notes and her and her sister danced for us. We gave her a few coins. Soon her sister is begging for money. Insistant. She won't leave us alone. I do not know what the others are thinking. I can only say for myself. No. No I can't ... read more

I leave tomorrow night for my trip to Mendoza and Santiago, so probably won't blog until I'm back. I'm pretty excited. The weather is supposed to be nice and it'll be good to get out of the city for a bit. A few weeks ago I had a bunch of the other Rotary scholars over to my apt for a get-together. Here are some of the pictures from that. Otherwise things are going well. My classes are busy. Most of us who chose good masters programs here are discovering that they mean business and we have a ton of reading. ... read more

Got away from the city for my last week in Argentina. It's really off season so this little resort town (if you can call it that... it's a bit sleepy) is a GHOST TOWN, but it's quite what I wanted. I have a cabin, in the woods, 150 meters or so from the deserted beach. Weekenders still come but during the week I have been alone, except for the numerous stray dogs who try to follow me around. (Thank goodness I finally learned "Get!" in Spanish). My cabin is adorable and cozy and comes with all the conveniences a solitary girl might need... including high-speed internet. TV channels aren't great though and I have been getting my fill of Law & Order and House, plus a few really bad movies... While here, I've been sleeping a ... read more

I have been avoiding writing because I am still depressed that my camera is broken and I have no pictures to show and tell about. However, too many days are passing, and so before we get too behind on the updates, I will post a summary and commentary about my life in la gran ciudad de Buenos Aires. Sweating in the Subte (underground subway system) on Tuesday afternoon I finally scored an empty seat and was able to sit down and observe my surroundings. I saw hundreds of people, all in their own worlds, minds, troubles, chores and rhythms. Each rushing from work to home, home to work, to school, to home, to lunch, to church, to the hospital, to the 'shopping' or somewhere else. Each one thinking in her or his own mind, one million ... read more
