Buenos Aires Travel Blogs

Background: Following independence from Spain in 1816, Argentina experienced periods of internal political conflict between conservatives and liberals and between civilian and military factions. After World War II, a long period of Peronist authoritarian rule and interference in subsequent governments was followed by a military junta that took power in 1976. Democracy returned in 1983, and numerous elections since then have underscored Argentina's progress in democratic consolidation.

I´ll remember you forever!
Well, the dust is starting to settle on my time in Buenos Aires. So what did I think?! Well, if you´ve been reading my blogs so far, you´ll probably already realise that I love Bs As. It´s a fantastic city that I´m absolutely gutted to have left so soon. I met amazing people, had an amazing time, and will have so many great memories. All I can say is STAY AWAY, KEEP OUT, DON´T GO THERE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, because you won´t want to leave, and I don´t want you all cluttering up the place and ruining it for when I [View Full Entry]

Unfortunately the best times come to an end and I had to leave Easter Island but hey who cares if your next destination is Buenos Aires. Many who have been there hyped BA and I have to say there were completely correct. This place rocks! If you ever look for a place in South America that is not too different from back home but is still interesting then this is the place to be. Lets start from the beginning. I managed to get a shuttle bus to my hostel after arriving at 2am in the night! Unfortunately the hostel I booked [View Full Entry]

Buenos Aires was huge! We stayed for four days and faced death many times aka. traveling by taxi and bus. We learned on our last day there that Buenos Aires has the highest death rate due to automobile accidents in the world. While there we saw La Casa Rosada (like our White House, only pink), La Boca (the old Italian neighborhood), a tango show, and we had an asada in our honor (an Argentine BBQ but in our case, it was grilled vegetables). Sunday neighborhood exploration, starting from the Plaza San Martin.
We're off to visit with Holden and Julia as they continue their around the world adventure. Eight days in Argentina - too few, we are to learn. They are having unseasonably hot weather, we are told by every cab driver we meet. But coming from the rainy northwest to summer is a pleasure. Sundresses, shorts and flip flops. [View Full Entry]

87%. Not bad considering I really didn´t like my teacher and spent all my time partying! So Principiante 2A in Santiago on Monday... So, last night was not quite as intended. Finally managed to book a table at La Cabrera last night. Had one for 15 people, but had to eat early (booked for 9pm). I thought that would be plenty, until I started to make a list of people to invite!!! Once I was somewhere into the 20´s I realised I´d have to be real selective. Well, the chosen few really were ucky, because the food was out of this [View Full Entry]

El Mano de Dios

First real entry and I don´t know where to start! Not done much so far. The days I had in Toronto were great but, it all went a bit quick. Arrived in BA yesterday after a pretty mammoth journey and have done a wee bit of exploring today although that got interrupted by having to stop in a tv shop to watch Chelsea lose to Boro!! What´s all that about?? The digs I´m in are small but, decent enough. The Landlady is elderley but cool and speaks very little English. But, I´m supposed to be here to learn her language so, [View Full Entry]

La Boca Nicole and I decided that we should check out the neighborhood of La Boca, which is also home of one of the best soccer teams in Argentina, especially because the most famous player in the country, Diego Maradona, played for that team. La Boca is a waterfront neighborhood and its character derives from families who could not afford paint for their homes, instead they used leftover paint from boats which resulted in a prism of corrugated metal, cobblestone streets, and expressive people. It’s a poor neighborhood and many of the well off people would wrinkle thei [View Full Entry]
