7 hours to kill before we head to the airport..... We had some great plans to walk around in BA today (we're currently homeless) but the one thunder storm of the past 2 months decided to hit the city on our last day. It's pouring out so we're just hanging out at a cafe since going outside isn't an option. Nothing else to do but write my final blog entry.
After the first impression of Cordoba I wasn't so sure about the city but after 2 days I've completely changed my view. In Argentina, Cordoba has a great reputation. It's said Cordoba citizens are among the kindest and most loved people in the country. The motto of the city/province is "corazon de mi pais" or heart of my country so it's pretty clear the place has a lot of meaning to the Argentines. On Monday everyone came out of the walls and downtown was filled with little markets and people; it was like a different city. (Holy shit the thunder is out of control right now.)
Anyway, we took an hour bus to Alta Vista where we visited the Che Guevara museum. The museum is in the Guevara's old family house where Ernesto Guevara lived from age 4-16. The experience was really interesting. I learned a lottt about Che's life and the Cuban Revolution. Che's infamous photo that shows up on tee shirts and posters all over the world represents the face of a revolutionary but learning about his life and understanding where he came from proved there is much, much more to Guevara than most people know. So many people have an oversimplified stereotype of him as either a violent socialist or as a cool symbol of liberation and revolution that they want to wear on their tee-shirts. Whatevaaa it was a good and educational experience well worth the extra bus ride.
Ehhh what else...yesterday was "Dia del Amigo" or friend's day, which is a national holiday in Argentina. So typical. Why doesn't the U.S. have a friend's day?
Spent last night on our last overnight bus, slept for mas o menos una hora...malo. Estoy cansada pero es okay por que en 24 horas i come home! Yay. I am so excited for sun and summer. It's been amazing down here but it's weird skipping summer and going basically winter to winter. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone and spending time in Saratoga.
Been at this cafe for 2 horas now (it's going to sound weird when I come home speaking spanglish) and I'm getting ready to order my second cafe con leche. Guess it's time to go back to the real world of schedules, time limits, planning and working. All good things must come to an end but I'm ready to be home and will, without a doubt, be back to cover the northern part of the country, Salta, Jujuy etc. sometime in the future. To Argentina, te amo, and to everyone I met along the way, salud y suerte!
Hasta luego, besos.
