17th January, Bariloche y Buenos Aires
We woke up at half 5 and got dressed in the dark as i was trying to be considerate to the others in the room. (I really dont know why i bothered, as the others had got in about 4 in the morning, and woke us up by switching on the light and making a ridiculous amount of noise!) we got a bus to the airport.. i was really sad that morning.. we had enjoyed 6 weeks of travelling to get to our final destination, and now we were going and it was over.
We arrived into Buenos Aires before midday, where the humidity hit me as soon as we walked out of the airport. It was the hottest country we had been to and the humidity was unbelievable. I hadnt realised it was going to be like that. We got a bus into the city where we had over 5 hours to wait before we would check into the flat at 5.30pm which jake had arranged before we started travelling.
We made our way towards American Express as we had to change travellers cheques for the deposit. We were gutted when we arrived after a long walk in the hot sun wearing our backpacks, only to be told it was closed until Monday! I was pissed off as i thought there was no chance we would be given the keys that evening if we didnt have the deposit. We didnt want to go and change it anywhere else as we would be charged alot. So we then had to sit in a boiling hot internet cafe trying to get in touch with someone from the housing agency, with no joy as the offices were shut. WeŽd no choice but to wait and see what they would say.
We sat in the park with our backpacks for a while, with me sweating! I was wondering how i would be able to live in this heat!
We sat in an internet cafe after the park until 5pm, before making our way to the flat which was across the road. Jake checked his ipod when we got out for the time, and saw that it was actually 6pm! We had missed the meeting to get the keys as the computer in the internet cafe was an hour behind!!! We were so upset as we had literally waited all day to move in, and now we had nowhere to go. The doorman couldnt speak english so we had nothing to do except to go and get accomadation for the weekend which we were fuming about as it would be really expensive in the centre.
But then we coouldnt believe our luck. We were just about to head out of the internet cafe to go and find a hostel, when a lady asked jake if he was jake... when he said yes, she said she was from the housing agency and had been looking for us!!!!!! We both looked at eachother stunned...... She had gone into the same internet cafe as us, to print off some contracts for her next appointment, and only asked jake by chance, as we had backpacks on!!! I was soooooo happy....we had somewhere to stay, and it was only by chance, as other wise we would have had to of waited until monday!
So after months of planning, 6 weeks of fantastic fun filled travelling through south america, we finally arrived in buenos aires and moved into our flat which we would have for the duration of our TEFL teaching course....!!
I was excited to be living in the citycentre, learning spanish and making a new life in argentina!
