One of the biggest sights to see here in BA is Recoleta Cemetery. I'm dead serious....Sorry, I had to. Seriously though, it's a huge cemetery solely made up of mausoleums. Sounds creepy, but it's actually really cool. You walk through rows and rows of mausoleums, all made as ostentatious as possible. It's definitely a cool class trip. Parents would probably need to sign the permission slip. But if you look at any website or travel book about BA, the cemetery is probably the #1 top spot to see. It's beautiful and resides in the shnazziest neighborhood of the city, Recoleta.
Oh and by the way, this pertains to my last post's rant...I asked Jay what he ate for lunch today and guess what he answered? HAM AND CHEESE SANDWICH! WHAT A SHOCKER! I should start a turkey farm down here.
Now we're up to today's mini rant: Los colectivos...translation: the buses. The public transportation is great here. The subways and buses are in abundance and fast. But, there is a strange phenomenon here with the buses. You know how in the states, so many Asians in Queens or any other car lovers supe up their cars (mom, this means
to really make your vehicle shnazzy with rims, tinted windows, airbrush paint effects, etc)? Well here, all of the bus drivers are in competition to make their bus look the coolest. And this means anything from etched writing on the rear view mirrors of their wife & kids' names to cool lights around their front windows to fur on the driver's seat, or if they really have the loot to do it, blue or red lighting all around the bottom of the outside of the bus. It's quite possibly one of the most asinine yet interesting things I've ever come across. But hey, if it makes them happy then who am I to judge?
Another thing that every Argentine bus driver does is still be in full motion while opening the doors for you to get on or off. The portenos have it down pat and can get off the bus while it is still in motion. I choose to wait until it has come to a complete stop though because I'm a lady and to make mommy proud. The buses and cabbies also don't stop for anything or anyone and will whip around corners at top speeds barely
slowing down where there might be stop signs. As hard as it is to believe, they are damn good a what they do and barely cause accidents. Like Martha Stewart says, it's a good thing.
