The air is very good here!
After eating rice and soup in the Andes, it was off to La Argentina to the city of so many friends... Buenos Aires!
Growing up on Ibiza, I had the wonderful good fortune of having a volleyball court in the garden, where the Saturday afternoons assembled an eclectic mix of youthful adventurers from all corners of the world.
Men and women, young and still-young, all eager for some competition and an excuse to guzzle a few liters of beer at Can Curune', afterwards, in preparation for a fun Saturday Night!
I was allowed to play sometimes, even though I hardly reached the bottom of the net and could barely see through my fringe...yes, I had hair, lots of hair!
Some of the players were immigrants from Argentina, doctors, dentists, making a living selling art at the Hippie Market as their degrees were not always accepted.
When they found out that I loved to play football, they began inviting me to play with them on Sundays.
I alternated between that and softball with the Americans at Purrvert Park.
Most of them would show up with their Blue and
Yellow, Boca Juniors shirts and swore that Maradona was God...
I watched the World Cup Final with them, and saw 'God' make Argentina World Champion!
Now, just a few days later (yeah right!), I was in the fabled Bombonera Stadium, watching Boca play from the very first row!
All of a sudden that little boy in me woke up and remembered so many anecdotes of another life!
Thank you Matias and Vicky for such a gift!
Matias is the son of Bautista, one of those volleyball players, actually more one of the beer sluggers!
We have known each other since the early eighties, going to the same schools and hanging out in the same places (Ibiza is a difficult place to get lost in).
Through the twists of destiny, Matias met Vicky and moved to Argentina, his ancestors' land, making a life for himself and fitting in with her family and friends.
As visitors we were treated like royalty and left no activity uncovered in our week-long interlude of razzle-dazzle bohemian city life!
They know how to live in Buenos Aires!
