I couldnt resist the urge to add more entries. Im now a working girl in the coldest, wettest place on earth. Boredom. My feet are once again skin coloured, instead of their usual grime coating. The hair has been cut at Tony and Guy, where I was given a back massage by a chair. Problem is, I kind of miss being dirty, and not caring. I know, Ill go for a week without washing. This will do the trick.... read more
And so, I came home early. The adventure has ended. I have passed through raging rivers, turbulent winds, and irritating dogs, and I've come out alive. It's pretty much a miracle, considering how mentally challenged I can be at times. I'll miss writing my blogs, and had no idea how many people were actually reading them (apologies for if I can be a teensy bit politically wrong at times) and now is the time to say goodbye to you all, and I'll see you at the pub tomorrow night. xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx... read more
Last day in Melbourne!
Published: April 30th 2007Oceania » Australia » Victoria » Melbourne » City CentreI can now escape from this city! Not that Australia isn't great and everything, but being in one place for more than two weeks gets a little tiresome. Tonight's my last night in Aussie world and am marking the occasion with a bottle of Chardonnay and a night of Jane Austen and maybe a bit of Southpark. Missing my partner in crime like mad - yes, YOU KNOW WHO YOU ARE! Thailand awaits... Today I did a little sightseeing and wandered along the Docklands. Was very nice, actually, with lots of arty farty things which im taking lots of photos of so i can say to my uni lecturers that i did something cultural while I was away. It seems people in this hostel spend their whole days in the TV room. I dont get this ... read more
Yes. That is me. Independant. Yeah, right. There's me and a box of Goon. That's all that's left. The other two have trotted off to Sydney on a twelve hour bus. I havent been on my own in a room for six months. Last night I actually looked under my bed to check that there were no monsters. Felt very strange saying goodbye. She's like my right arm. Or my left leg. Or my head, since i have zero common sense by myself. Its very saddening. Just me, Jane Austen, and a bottle of Goon. My oh my.... read more
We're in despair. Have found out that we will not be able to meet Karl Kennedy because Neighbour's night is on Mondays, and its Monday today, and we cant get to Melbourne in time! But we are staying at the hostel where Neighbour's Night is held, so I may still spy someone. We may have managed to sell the car, which seems to be working perfectly now. But it means that we have to be like peasants and actually GET THE BUS. Woe is me. Have discovered new life meaning in Dr Phil. Am reading one of his books called 'Self Matters - Creating Your Life From The Inside Out' - its just amazing. Im being healed. And slightly brainwashed. And Emma has found luuurve. In a cowboy from Talwood. Sooo...she's kinda staying here. To become ... read more
Sooooo. It seemed like it was too good to be true - could we really make it from Alice Springs to Adelaide in a day? It appears we raced too fast and our darling little Fred (which we fondly named our car) was a little too fragile and tired. It started stalling quite a lot. Then the engine wouldnt turn on unless you revved it. But it seemed fine when we were driving it. By this time it was about five o clock, and we still had about five hours to go, so instead we decided to drive to Port Augusta, about two and a half hours away. We got there and tried to find a hostel - here the Aboriginees and the Australians all seem to hate each other (sorry about the generalisation but I'm ... read more
It's like, a really big rock.
Published: April 10th 2007Oceania » Australia » Northern Territory » UluruMe and Em are THE BOMB!!! We have travelled over THREE DAYS in the car to Ayers Rock. Thats a lot of kms. That's like, 1163 km to Alice Springs, then another 500km to Ayers Rock. We rule. And we're a couple of girls!!! Mind, we've still managed to be pretty girly. We had bought a jerry can of petrol in case we ran out, then kept getting scared that it would explode with us in the car, so we stopped by the side of the road and gave it to a random man. Better safe than sorry. I don't think I can stand another second in the car. But tomorrow we're gonna try and race it to Adelaide. Thats about 1200km in one day. Nee botha man. Saw Ayer's rock today. It's canny huge ... read more
Fraser Island and The Whitsundays
Published: April 6th 2007Oceania » Australia » Queensland » Airlie BeachIt's been an interesting few days over here. For one thing, a bird has just slapped itself against the window. And I also feel like the ground is moving. But let's start at the beginning, my friends... Last Saturday we travelled from Hervey Bay to Fraser Island in a 4WD in a group of eight people. There was me, Emma, Ashlei, a Scottish couple named Debbie and Kyle, a Londoner named Aaron and a Canadian named Graham. We were a fine few. We left being told that the car would automatically switch itslef to four wheel drive once we got on the sand. We put our faith in this info and hit the road. Our first day was spent getting stuck. A lot. The solution to this was for everyone to get out and dig ... read more
