Sunset from the Three Crosses
| Sunset from the Three CrossesPhotographer: Ian ElliottFrom: Hitching Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Lithuania TB Code: [photo=907290] Sunset from the Three CrossesThe three crosses were erected as a memorial to early missionaries 'martyred by pagans' or killed by the locals. These crosses eventually became symbols of christianity in Lithuania and of Lithuania itself. When the Russians were conquering Lithuania they knocked the chrosses down, but they have been erected once again. Sorry I donthave a picture of them themselves, but they are unremarkable, the storey is more interesting than the chrosses are attrctive. |
