Yesterday, we took our lives in our hands and drove from Panama City to Pedasi, a fishing village of about 2000 people on the south (Pacific) coast. We were able to rent from National at the domestic airport near the canal, so didn't have to drive through the city -- a good point for anyone doing this. Tom and I are a retired couple who live in Tennessee USA and love to travel, especially in Asia. Since 2008, we've spent chunks of time in Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam (this is our third trip), Laos, China (twice) , India, Egypt, Jordan, Turkey, and Japan (this is our second trip). We're in our late 60s and travel on our own, carrying 25-30 pound backpacks rather than suitcases, plus small daypacks.
