The ones with the tinsel in their hair are Maiko- apprentices. There were only 2 real geisha in that row, the older women are 'Mamas', former geisha and now geisha managers.

The theme begins with a move of stupefying generosity about three weeks ago. I was gifted a ticket to Kabuki, which is a traditional form of Japanese Theatre. Tickets are hard to come by and by no means inexpensive. I had the good fortune to be offered a chance to see a show on my day off, and this gift horse was not being looked in the mouth.
