10th December 2006 Today we traveled to the “Keralan backwaters” - a series of canals through man-made islands. The islands were made over centuries through back-breaking labour. They continue to sink even to this day - providing the need for “mud-diggers”, who are paid around A $9 for each canoe of mud they dig.
