Much of the Jaffna peninsula is covered in mines making it impossible for local poor people to farm further hampering recovery. The same is true for many ex war zones, it’s a terrible legacy. I met a UN chap who told me the Tamil Tigers didn’t keep accurate records of where they had dropped mines so it makes proper clearance even harder.

Hello again everyone Quick update on my Sri Lankan adventures. Sri Lanka is proving to be quite a photogenic place and I don’t want to flood folks with too many pictures on one post. So far my initial plans of heading up North and then skirting the East Coast are being followed and Sri Lanka is surpassing all my (already high) expectations.
