History of Kerman can be traced back to its establishment as a defense outpost by Ardeshir I in the 3rd century. He was the first ruler of the Sassanid dynasty and called this defense outpost by the name of Behdesir. This place was passed on to the Muslim rulers in 642 following the battle of Nahavand.
