Ayers Rock ist ein Ort der Gegensätze. Zuerst muss man sehr lange dorthin fahren, tief ins Outback. Weil es so weit entfernt von allem, hat man nur eine Uebernachtungsmöglichkeit, das "Ayers Rock Resort". Dieser grosse Komplex besteht aus verschiedenen Hotels, Informationszentrum, Post, Supermarkt (mit überraschend gutem Angebot), und Tankstelle. Also alles was die Zivilisation braucht.
