Religious Grafitti
The interior of the Old Mosque. Nowadays writing is on smaller tablets attached to the walls; the walls on this mosque were covered with calligraphy. This particular one reads "Allah", chosen since it's the only Arabic word I can recognize with certainty.

Hitched across rolling fields and afternoon fog through Eastern Thrace to Edirne, less than 20 miles from Bulgaria and Greece. My hitchhiking fortunes have vastly improved since my comparative inexperienced days a month ago. My trip began (July 19, 2004) as a 14-month leave of absence from my job, with the intention of "seeing the world", and a bunch of unrealistic ideas of what can be accomplished in a year. Turns out a year isn't as long as it seems, so I've recently quit my job (yeay!) to become a full-time traveler. Until, that is, I run out of money or decide I'm ready to rejoin the ratrace.
