Rooster

There's a Turkish saying "her horoz kendi coplugunde oter" (lit. every rooster crows in his own dump). This rooster lost much of its arrogance when I came close enough to take its picture.

Ayvalik. An inseperable part of the Turkish national homeland(!). Signs all over point out that it was here that the first military resistance was formed against the advancing Greeks back in 1919. I daresay I'm a bit puzzled. By all indications this was as Greek a town as any in western Anatolia. My trip began (July 19, 2004) as a 14-month leave of absence from my job, with the intention of "seeing the world", and a bunch of unrealistic ideas of what can be accomplished in a year.
