Rapid-tests for malaria

In places far removed from medical care (or in this case, where it was a Saturday, and slides couldn't be read until Monday), the rapid test is given to detect quickly whether the person has parasites in the blood. The test is definitely a step forward in diagnosis, but the catch is that it only works once the person has a good amount of parasite in the blood, and therefore already pretty sick. It does not work for early detection.
