Before leaving for our next village, we stopped by the village school, gave gifts of pencils and notebooks to the teacher and learned a little about why kids there go to school and their chances of going to university. Most families are farmers and wish their children to stay and help, so education beyond primary school is not valued as we do. But, if children wish to go on to high school, they ... read more

Coming from a very small, homogeneous town amidst the forests of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan, I knew there was a vast world I must explore. After spending a year in France/Switzerland at age 16, an intense desire to learn about as many cultures as I can emerged.
Now, as I am about to finish my doctoral degree in International Education, my passion is to learn about as much of the world as I can.
