Lantau is Cantonese for „broken head“, its round about twice the size of Hong Kong Island, yet only 88,000 people live here. It was once a base for smugglers and pirates. I boarded the Star Ferry to Mui Wo (Lantau’s main settlement) around noon on my second day in Hong Kong, looking forward to see the giant Tian Tan Buddah located at Ngong Ping Plateau.
