Edit Blog Post
I mentioned in my blog on Auckland that i had to catch my shuttle to the airport at 3:30am which i did but when i arrived around 4:30am i was told that i wasn't meant to be flying out until the next day!!! Now before you start thinking how stupid i am it said on all the paper work i had on me that i was leaving Auckland on the 18th but because the company i was flying out with stopped doing flights to and from New Zealand they had arrange some alternative flights for me and they booked them for the 19th. So i had to head back to my hostel which cost me twice as much as the shuttle to the airport as i hadn't pre booked it, then i had to check back in by which point it was nearly 6 in the morning so i had about 3 hours sleep before having to check out of my room and swap to another one, adding that to the fact i hadn't slept the day before as it seemed pointless as i had to leave at half 3 and i was doing the same that day i was shattered
Outdoor Beanbags
You might be able to see two guys at the back that brought a saof to sit on! to say the least. I spent most of my extra day in Auckland chilling out on the sofa in a half awake half asleep state but in the evening i met up with one of the american girls and some of her flat mates and we went to an outdoor cinema. The cinema was about half an hours walk from the city centre in a small park and it was totally free, the week before i was told they had played Casino Royale and this week it was a 'mystery' movie (Not in the sense of a mystery genre but a surprise film) the screen was a large inflatable and near the screen were four or five rows of bean bags which we managed to get some before they were all taken.
As its outdoors they couldn't show the movie until it got dark so before hand there were live bands playing on a small stage to the side of the screen and there were people from Telecom (A kiwi phone company) handing out free popcorn, we sat and chilled out listening to the band and watched as the park got more and more full. The movie was supposed
to start around 8:30 but by 9pm they still hadn't played anything and someone announced that they were experiencing technical difficulties but they'd be up and running soon, an hour and a half later there was still no film so we decided to call it a night and head back, i was told later on that they never played the film because some of their equipment had broke but it was still pretty cool and its not like i had to pay for anything so i didn't lose out. I got back to the hostel and waited around for a while until getting picked up and heading to the airport for the second time, this time there were no problems and at 6:30 in the morning i left New Zealand and flew to Brisbane. I was in Brisbane for three hours during which time i made a few phone calls and got a call from Siouxsie's mum to tell me that she had just got on a plane and was flying out to meet me in Thailand!!!!! I was ecstatic to say the least and couldn't wait to get into Bangkok but i still had a long way ahead of
me.
I left Brisbane at 10:25 local time which was 6 and a half hours after i had left my hostel and flew to Taipei. The flight to Taipei took 8 and a half hours but felt even longer as we were following the sun and i had a screaming kid behind me the whole flight so i didn't get much if any sleep, but things were on the up when i arrived in Taipei. Because the company i was originally flying with messed up my flights and the new ones they booked for me meant i had over six hours to wait in Taiwan they compensated for it by allowing me access to their VIP Lounge! I was given a pass when i got off the plane and headed with quite a pace to the lounge, after getting a dodgy look from a few of the staff (Imagine a smelly, sleep deprived backpacker walking up to the reception of the VIP lounge and you can understand why i got some funny looks) i headed into the lounge and a huge smile filled my face. They had free food, free drinks including alcohol and not the cheap stuff, free
Colourful Skies
The sun rising behind us on the way to Brisbane Wi-Fi, comfy chairs and a gaming room full of Xbox's hooked up to HDTV's!!!! I was in heaven and didn't waste anytime making the most of it but before i knew it the 6 and a bit hour wait was over and i boarded the flight to Bangkok. It took another 4 hours to make it to Thailand and by the time i had got through customs and collected my bag it was 3am and when i finally arrived at the hostel it was 4am. If you haven't worked it out by now the title of this entry is the amount of hours it took me to get to Thailand after leaving my hostel in Nz, I'm not sure what the Internet situation is like in Thailand so there may not be another blog until I'm home.
