Tuesday 26th- 1st Jan Ok so as Paul was here I became really bad at diary writing so have no idea what we did on each day. Anyway we came back to Sydney on Boxing Day to mums Christmas present of a lovely hotel right in the center of the city. We had to wait for the video shop to open at midday to get our deposit back so we did another loop drive. Paul got into the Australian spirit by going into the video shop with out any shoes on. When we got back to Sydney we missed the bridge turning and went under the tunnel and in a rush to get the car back by 2pm we almost had our first argument but only almost!!! We took advantage of the Christmas sales and on ... read more

Arrived in Sydney from Melbourne on the 28th December after seeing England perform so well again in the Ashes, but at least Christmas was fun. Back to Sydney again, for the 3rd time and hopefully for a while. Sadly the money ran out in Duty Free at Heathrow so its time I returned to reality and got a job. I will keep you posted but after watchign some A-League soccer out here, I'm certainly not ruling that out! My first few days back in Sydney was largesly catching up with Lawrence and Adi and the Irish Ladies! Was fun, lots of drinking and dancing but sadly not a lot of daylight seen! News Years Eve in Sydney has the reputation of being pretty special, so the bar had been set very high. It was unbelievable just ... read more

Hello 2007! I joined the one million or so revellers surging around the Sydney Harbour Bridge in time to witness the famous firework display. It was the largest pyrotechnic display ever in celebration of the 75th anniversary of the bridge's opening. Getting a good vantage point was impossible so we scrambled up to above the Rocks area and could see the bridge side on. My photos a few years ago from the luxury of McMahons Point Tower were far superior but long lost. However, the few shown here give the flavour of the evening but most images were lost in the darkness. Sydney certainly knows how to party. Bars and restaurants were buzzing and as we walked along Kings Wharf after midnight there were live bands competing with each other in adjoining restaurants with revellers bobbing ... read more

Hi Hope everyone is well back home and 2007 is proving to be a good year so far! We've finally got round to putting our final 2006 entry online which covers Tasmania and Melbourne. Tasmania and The Overland Track We spent about 10 days in Tasmania with most of it doing The Overland Track. However, we did get to see a lot of the island on the bus taking us to the start and from the end of the walk and we had a few days in both Hobart and Launceston which were pretty cool towns. Overall, Tasmania was beautiful and we would definitely like to go back to explore some more at some point! The Overland Track is Tasmania's most famous multi-day trek. It is around 65 km in length, with options to do side ... read more

HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!!!! Hope everyone had a really cool new year and saw it in, in style!! Harriet and I chose to do what is on the list of ‘100 things to do before you die’, that is, New Years in Sydney Harbour!! We had an amazing time, and well worth the 10 hours we waited to get one of the best seats in the house! We left our house at 12.30 (mid day) and made our way over to north Sydney to a place called McMahons Point. This is directly in front of the bridge, fully face on ( so on the opposite side of the harbour to the opera house, and the other side of the bridge to the opera house!) So we could see the bridge AND the opera house and the city ... read more

This morning had to be up early for the Bridge climb woke up 7:45 no one else seemed to be up a few people sleeping in the TV lounge. Caught the train and got to the bridge climb today’s weather raining, They advised that the trips were cancelled due to possible thunder storms and they would re try at 12:20. I went for some breakfast then had a look around some of the shops in the Rocks area. As the weather took up I thought we should be in luck. Got there at 11:45 and registered and they advised the climb would proceed at 12:20 they gave us all a breath test then gave us a jump suit and got us to wear that they then gave us a demo on how the safety harness works ... read more

What better way to spend a sunny New Years Day here in Walpole than chilling out at the beach. Along the Denmark coastline there is a forest that literally meets the sea in spectacular fashion with karri growing right to the waters edge of some inlets. The park is a mix of forest, sheer headlands, sheltered bays and unusual flora. William Bay is located between Denmark and Walpole off the South Coast Highway. Like many areas on the South Coast there is no coastal plain, in its place are high coastal sand dunes, some of which are colonised by dense scrub and trees and the spectacular, tall hills of granite rocks which have a stonehenge-like appearance. The William Bay National Park is a popular destination for those in the area. While it is a relatively small ... read more
