As we count down the days until we board our plane and head OS we thought that it may be appropriate to have a party to say goodbye to our friends. The venue: Matt’s place (formerly Tyson’s too) at Toowong. The purpose: one last night of fun with everyone. I’m sure all were disappointed that I forgot to bring Sing Star. (Well I was and maybe Anne too.) Anyways eventually everyone got over it and instead a dance floor was created in the kitchen. It seems that everyone had a relatively quiet night and no one got up to anything too exciting. Tyson was off to bed slightly early and I felt it necessary to keep jumping/sitting on him to wake him up every half hour or so (Much appreciated by Tyson I’m sure :p) Thanks ... read more

Monday 15th January 2007 We left Ashburton and headed off for the longish drive to Queenstown, the adventure capital of NZ and the most southerly point that time was going to allow us to reach and as we entered the small township of Geraldine fifteen minutes into the trek I had just started telling Marg the one about the outback radio station (if you aint heard it yet ask me when I get home). I was getting fully into the story as was Margy, perhaps even a little bit carried away as can sometimes be the case and shortly after it'd finished and we´d both stopped chuckling we came across an unplanned T junction with the major route 1 highway, the very same highway we'd pulled off twenty minutes earlier. I let out a loud "shit". ... read more

Friday 19th today it was a glorious day and the true beauty of this place was unveiled as I stepped out onto the deck and saw the view, this place reminded me of something out of Swallows and Amazons. We got the motor boat out of the boathouse and got it running it was such fun zooming round the lake exploring its many different little bays and coves. During the afternoon we go by boat to visit the Hot Pools and take a bath in the naturally hot springs. The water is very hot and a little smelly as it has high sulphur content; I am assured that it is good for me and after having been in them for a while you didn’t notice the sulphur smell at all. I was amazed at how hot ... read more

On the 19th we headed to Waihi to check out the gold mine that is still in operation. The Martha Mine produces about 80% of NZ gold. We could walk along the top of the mine and look down into the huge pit that they have dug away. Dave liked the big machinery! From there we headed to Karangahake Gorge where we did a walk through old gold mining tunnels. The walk we did was called the Windows Walk, because the wall of main tunnel had been cut out at different spots along it so the waste rock could be dumped out into the Ohinemuri river 200ft below. It was a really good walk, with lots of chances for Dave to get lost in all the old mining tunnels if I’d let him. From there we ... read more

Of the things to do around Melbourne, one of them is to go see the worlds smallest penguins up close and person at Philip Island which is home to Victoria's largest colony of the little penguins. There are quite a few tours heading out there from the city and all make little stops along the way to turn it into a day trip and help break up all the driving. Most of the tours will run you about $100 and have options to get a better view of the penguins for an extra fee but those who did it said it wasn't worth it since you can get very close to the penguins on the boardwalk as they head up the hill and the information the ranger told them is all in the visitors center if ... read more

Well, I am about to be heading away from Melbourne so I thought I should really have put some of my photos up here. I do need to pack for Thailand though so I won't be able to ramble as much as usual. Most of my time here has been non-eventful - helping Caleb get set up. In my early days I explored quite a bit while Caleb was at work - the Botanical Gardens, Shrine of Remembrance, Bridge Rd (Caleb was unimpressed when he lent me money so I didn't need to get charged international fees and came home with 3 pairs of shoes) and around the city. I still couldn't get used to having a posse of flies that followed me and my gelato around! In my more recent days there has been less ... read more

Sydney Bridge Climb After reading carry on scrolling more pics Today is the big day,for my second adventure in Sydney. I am a little apprehensive as I am not too keen on heights, however to come to Sydney and not do the "Climb" would be something I would regret for ever so "A Mans Got To Do What A Mans Got To Do." Known locally (Sydneysiders) as the 'Coat Hanger' and now more commonly as 'The Bridge' Sydney Bridge it is the widest long-span bridge in the world and is the largest steel arch bridge with the top of the bridge standing 134 metres above the harbour. The standards of industrial safety during construction were poor by today's standards. Sixteen workers died during construction, mainly from falling off the bridge. Several more were injured from unsafe working ... read more
