Map of Oceania

The continent or region of Oceania has various definitions - with interpretations including Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, East Timor and parts of Indonesia. The name Oceania is used because it is the ocean and adjacent seas rather than a continent that link the lands together.

Oceania offers a varied landscape - with regions varying from forest to mountain range, to island paradises dotted amongst temperate waters. Due to the region's formation, the islands of Oceania hold a diverse range of animals and plants, often unique to their own island or region.

Well moved on from Sydney leaving Tom, Jo and Adam behind and took an over night bus to Byron bay. My god overnight buses are hard to sleep in.... don't actually think got much sleep at all. The beach here is wicked and getting a tan finally! Sea is really warm... not gonna do surfing cause know i'll be bad at it. Diving is my next mission but that'll prob wait till get to Brisbane. Byron is a little town all about surfing, sunbathing and teenagers pulling everybody. Seriously its a meat market here full of 18/19 year olds who have [View Full Entry]

The Old Firestation Backpackers Hostel
The Old Firestation Backpackers Hostel
Our Haven for THREE weeks!!
Ok... time has run away with me. I'll do my best to update without boring! During our time in Fremantle, we had two tours of the prison... the first was a scary ghostly torchlight night tour with some other hostelers. We were given a reduced rate for a daylight tour so we went back a week later and were taken on a 'Great Escapes' tour. It was fascinating learning how prisoners plotted escape routes, knocked through walls etc. In an attempt to keep fit, we force ourselves to swim or jog a few times a week. A children's playground near the [View Full Entry]

Party!
Dudes!
Boogy Wonderland!

Cape Tribulation Still northward bound for the day Daintree Village too. This’ll just be a quick entry. I've fallen behind yet again since I haven't been online for an entire week! There is so much to "report" but too little time to type it all up. In short, I have seen and done lots of things since saying goodbye to Ann and Rob outside of the YHA in Brisbane last Wednesday. Currently in Cairns and will be here for a few more days before making my way towards the Centre of Australia. Three weeks in Australia already...boy the time is flying [View Full Entry]

Beautiful Sydney
Beautiful Sydney
On our bus tour of Sydney we got to go to a beautiful location on a large hilltop to view the city!
Hello All! I have been in Australia for a week now even though it seems like a day! The scenery here is unbelievable. Pictures are unable to capture how beautiful it actually is, but I will be posting some pictures to keep you all updated on what I am doing so far! Tomorrow I am hoping to go to the zoo. Last weekend I went to the aquarium and it was awesome! I got to see seals, sharks, a crocodile, and fish from the reef! We also went to Manly Beach which was pretty fun. The water is to cold [View Full Entry]

Wet is for all the rain that we've seen on the West Coast, for the fantastically choppy Tasman Sea, and for the temperate rainforest that surrounds us here. Wild is for some of the weather we've seen, for the rugged scenery and for the day we had glacier hiking yesterday - fantastic. And the west coast of NZ is where we are now. We drove from Nelson over two days, mostly in rainy and overcast weather, through scenery which was stunning when the low cloud broke enough to be able to see it - high mountains, rolling waves, a road which [View Full Entry]

Extreme danger
Breathe in!!
The hail storm

Sorry about the long break between entries, but I was literally living in a barn for the last 2 weeks. We drove to Coromandel, stopping overnight in Taupo where we soaked in some natural pools. We stayed near Port Charles (pop. 79) in the far northern part of Coromandel. Now, technically, we stayed in a “wool shed” (where they sheared sheep a week earlier), but to me, anything that has had animals in it constitutes a barn. There was a wall dividing the sheep area from the living area at least. It did have electricity and indoor plumbing, but the water [View Full Entry]

Last day East Coast Pass Crocodiles & Bungy Jumps The Woolshed at Night. It was a full bus going from Mission Beach to Cairns and one REALLY long day because of one not too tactful and oh so drunk girl named Lisa. It was really disappointing since yesterday's small bus load was really nice with all of us getting along pretty nicely. I don't really care to waste my time and energy writing about Lisa and how she made the day on the bus ride seem extra long. Plus it is much better to tell stories like this in person as [View Full Entry]

Surf's up

Oceania » New Zealand » North Island » Raglan
After all excitement of caving we took our slightly sore bodies on a drive through native bush to our next destination - Raglan - Surf capital of NZ. We stopped at two more awesome sights on the way: the huge (and very wet at the time) Mangapohue natural limestone bridge - a magnificent collapsed cave with its river now open to the elements - and then the thundering Marokopa falls. The torrential rain stopped in time for us to see the lovely Kawhia harbour as we approached Raglan. We spent a couple of stormy days planning, reading, visiting some more waterfalls [View Full Entry]

Bridal Veil Falls

I came back to Perth Sunday night having 2 big missions: visiting Perth Mint (because Erez said it was a must) and finding lift / travel mates to go north together. Monday was almost fully spent on that task (and in the meantime I also extended my visa to Australia to end of August!). After visiting some backpackers and checking their notice boards, I came back to my own hostel just to discover there was a British girl sitting in the cafe there and she was looking for the same thing! The rest of the day was spent on renting a [View Full Entry]

Quasar teams
What a sexy lot we were!!
It was our friend Pam's birthday so we all went to quazar, i'm sure my gun wasn't working properly i seemed to be getting shot far too many times, but it was fun. Off to the sail and anchor for drinks afterwards. 01/06/05 Pinch punch first day of the month!, still in Fremantle and that night we went on a torchlight tour of the old fremantle prison, it was a really interesting tour learning about all the ghosts that roam the prison and having actors jump out at you, i think the girls found it more scary than me though!! Have [View Full Entry]
