Map of Oceania

The continent or region of Oceania has various definitions - with interpretations including Australia, New Zealand, New Guinea, East Timor and parts of Indonesia. The name Oceania is used because it is the ocean and adjacent seas rather than a continent that link the lands together.

Oceania offers a varied landscape - with regions varying from forest to mountain range, to island paradises dotted amongst temperate waters. Due to the region's formation, the islands of Oceania hold a diverse range of animals and plants, often unique to their own island or region.

I took this last year. You can see the dome of Flinders Street Station on the left.
Okay, so I don't know if you can really write a travel blog for the place you grew up in but what the heck, it's a start. The People People in Melbourne are generally pretty easy going. You'll find all kinds of people here. It's common place to see any number of goth's or emo's hanging around Flinders Street station for example, and nobody bats an eyelid. It's easy to get help when you need it and it's also generally pretty safe. (I walked from one end of the city to the other at 1am alone dressed in nightclub clothes and [View Full Entry]

Hi!!! Just sitting at home watching a movie - ladder 49 (sad one!) while Mark is at work. Thought I would write down some things that I have learnt about NZ - mostly a lot of slang and how to talk the kiwi talk. lol. First, Kia Ora is a Maori greeting. The actual meaning is be well/healthy but ppl here say it as a "hey hows it going" kind of greeting sometimes. Often it's "Kia Ora Bro" lol "bro" is commonly used by the guys around here. Also, the way they say it is more like Kiora (Kee-or-a). I find [View Full Entry]

Happy New Year!
Happy New Year!
The cabin crew on Air NZ Flight 05 festivates as they ring in the New Year 2009.
I figured that I better write while things are relatively fresh in my head, and before I get started at work tomorrow. What an experience thus far! Our flight from LAX to AUK was quite eventful with some clear air turbulence about half way across that made Jack "concerned" in that it caused the 747 to bank to the right 15-20 degrees for a short period of time. The pilot asked the in cabin crew to take their seats. Things smoothed out somewhat, then in about 30 minutes became smooth for the duration. The flight was not very full, so both [View Full Entry]

Peats Ridge Festival
A butterfly strides head and shoulders above the crowd.
Imagine an evening when a whole town is alive with fun. Coloured lights shine out of the darkness. Pedestrians walk everywhere because there are no vehicles. Many of them wear extravagant costumes and carry masks. There's no apparent drunkeness or rowdiness, yet revellers are free to consume as much as they want because they can walk home to their tents. Different venues offer drinks, dinners, music, dance. People wander freely from one venue to the next. Lights sparkle in the night. That was Peats Ridge Fes [View Full Entry]

Sydney, Australia - January 3rd - 11:46pm Lee and I planned on getting up at 4:45am to watch the ship sail into Sydney, as you can picture, the alarm went off and I rolled over! Lee went head and did dispatch and I slept and read a bit more. We were meeting up with Jean (a lady Lee and I met at a Miata event in October) and her friend Paul at 10:45am. We headed outside and met up with them. They had a route planned out for us, so we headed out on the open road. They took us the [View Full Entry]

Sydney, Australia - January 4th - 3:30pm Well today is the day where I become planted. My travel blogs are no longer going to be from different places in the world. Today is the day that I disembark the floating house. Lee and I got up at 8:00am as we had a few more things to pack and he had to move back to his old room. I was a little depressed as I have to say my farewells to Lee and to the floating house. I jumped in the shower, got ready and finished packing as Lee took the remaining [View Full Entry]

Hello again!! Hope that all is well in the states... I'm still loving it here in Sydney and am discovering even more amazing things about this place each day!!!! The last 2 days have been a little more relaxed, which have been nice, as we have a busy week ahead of us! Yesterday we lounged around for a bit, finalizing some of our plans for our trip up to the Great Barrier Reef and a few other things we plan to do in Sydney. I went on a nice run around the Opera House, Botanical Gardens, and the Rocks, and definitely [View Full Entry]
