We spent four days in Samoa, staying at the Aggie Gray resort. The flight from NZ took 4 hrs and we arrived early (5:20am local time, 4:20am NZ time) Friday morning so we were tired when we got in.
Aggie Grays Resort is very nice. The water is blue and warm and there is a lovely pool (with a bar :-)), the foods good, its well maintained and the staff are very friendly. On Friday night there was a cultural show which was surprisingly good, for about an hour they do dances from Polynesian islands including NZ. It was kinda weird to watch a haka done after having left NZ. We were able to go canoeing, paddle boating and have a massage in their spa.
We rented a car for two days and drove around the island. This was my first time driving on the right so it was good practice for the USA. It may not be the best practice as the roads are quite narrow and the driving style fairly laidback so sometimes cars would be driven on whatever side suited the driver. Also there are no directional signs in Samoa so we took the long way
(wrong way:-) ) to get to Apia. This was pretty nice though as we saw some wonderful scenery on the quiet side of the coast. We also found a great place for a swim.
Apia is pretty small but is by far the biggest town in Samoa. When we got their it was Saturday so town was very quiet. This was a shame as the Robert Louis Stevenson museum was closed and was also closed Sunday and Monday (Monday is a public holiday for mothers day)
Mostly we have spent our time swimming in the pool or in the sea or lounging around. We’re both quite tanned now and have forgotten how cold it was when we left. Having relaxed, got a tan and taken advantage of the four star resort we now look forward to the more bustling sights of LA (and prepare for less luxurious accommodation.)
Cheers
Shaun
P.S. The handle of a Gillette Mach3 Razor is a good tool for opening beer bottles.
