Hi All,
So on Christmas eve we left Dunedin for Queenstown. Ian's sister had kindly booked us a room in the adventure Queenstown hostel so we wouldn't be on our own over Christmas. We got checked into the lovely hostel and signed ourselves up for Christmas breakfast and dinner that was organised by the hostel. We had a really nice room here which must have only been recently done up as it was all so new. We had a nice walk around the town and we were surprised at how different it was from the rest of NZ. It reminded me more more of a European ski town than what we had been seeing. Its really beautiful set on the lake Wakatipu and there is some much for you to do. That night we decided to head out for the usual Christmas eve drinks and ended up going to a lil Irish bar before being kicked out just after eleven.
On Christmas morning we woke up to the sun beaming in the sky. We headed into the kitchen for breakfast of baked ham and eggs along with a nice glass of champagne. To our surprise we were given a
big box from the guy who owns the hostel. Apparently he had been talking to Ian's sis and agreed to give us some gifts our folks and Orlagh had sent over to us. We were so surprised and absolutely delighted, it really helped us get through Christmas being away from everyone at home. As like most Christmas days at home we just lounged around before dinner watching TV etc. We were treated to a massive feast by the hostel we had beef, chicken pork and lamb, with all the trimmings of veg roast potatoes gravy stuffing Yorkshire puddings it was amazing and it was all cooked by the staff in the hostel. For dessert we had pudding and a lovely pavlova. We were so full after and it was great getting to chat to everyone, getting to know how they spend there Christmas etc. More lounging around and watching TV followed after dinner followed by a few drinks that evening. Nothing to dissimilar to what would usually happen at home. It was a great day all round but there is still nothing like being at home for Christmas with friends and family.
The following morning we checked out of our hostel
and got checked into a caravan park just up the road. I ended up playing a game of golf that day with Laura acting as caddy. Although she did think she was some sort of model every time I looked over at her she was pulling poses with the golf bag on her back taking photos of herself haha. That evening we decided to try the famous ferg burger! We couldn't believe the que outside the place and then the 40 minute wait to actually get our food. Laura tried the Fish burger and I had beef with bacon. Their burgers are massive but I managed to finish it all, that can't be said for Laura who got nowhere near finishing hers.
The following day we decided to take yet another cable car up to the skyline. There are some amazing views over the lakes and while up here and you can do bungy jumping and parasailing. We decided to have some fun on the luge ride at the top. This was so much fun we thought it was like super Mario racing each other down the hill, we couldn't get enough we were like a couple of kids.
After the skyline we decided would try some jetboating even though it was pretty expensive. We spent an hour or so flying around the lake and some very shallow and narrow rivers. We were getting thrown from side to side and spun around we couldn't stop laughing. Although nothing could stop two lil kids from falling asleep during the whole thing which just amazed us both haha.
We topped off a great day by having a nice cold beer watching the sun come down over the lake what a better way to spend our last day in Queenstown.
Chat soon
Lots of love
Laura and Ian
