South Island V-Cay: Day #7

Woke up this morning more than ready to get on the rode and leave the Purple Cow hostel and my snoring rommies behind. Lauren, Shelly and I were really excited to start our road trip up the coast and got an early start. We had decided that we needed to take advantage of driving ourselves and that we should stop whenever we felt the need to get out and explore...so our first stop was about an hour and a half into the drive where we walked around the Blue Pools in Mt. Aspiring National park.

Oh if only we had known that just because Sunny was our transport that it didn't promise SUN for our drive. The trip through the Haast Pass was really eerie because the rain and cloudy skies sourounded the mtn tops and we felt like we were in a bubble of gray...but because of all the rain there were waterfalls everywhere!! It was really neat to see them flow all the way down the mtns and right up next to us on the road. And I learned later that day that Kiwis prefer to drive through that

Well if it was sunny out then they would have been a little bit more blue I'm sure...
area with those conditions because it is so seriegn filled with water and green foliage...so I guess we were lucky!?!

Even though it was rainy we still stopped a few more times before we reached our final destination. Ship's Creek is a place on the Tasman Sea where a huge chunk of a shipwrecked vessel floated all the way from Australia and landed on the beach. The ocean was crashign against the beach and there was drift wood all over the entire beach...but we still ran around on the sand and collected shells. We gave up when the pelting rain was soaking through our rain coats!!!

The rain let up a little so we stopped at Knight's Point which is a lookout over the Tasman Sea. Couldn't see to far because of the misty skies so we set up my camera and tried to get pics of the three of us with the good scenery behind us...didn't work to well but got lot of funny pics!!

We finally made it to Fox were we planned on staying for the next two nights. We decided to stay at the Ivory Towers hostel because we would have

The rock beds were full of green stones that you would never see back home!!
our own room with bathroom and kitchenett...which rarely ever happens!!! It was a really cozy place with a little den and fireplace...plus they have a big movie room. Which we took advantage of and watched Almost Famous before we went to bed early. We are hoping the weather clears up for tomorrow and Sunny starts bringing us good luck!!

Lets hope it clears up and we dry up tonight cause we have lots of fun stuff planned for tomorrow!!! Keep up the emails and I should have some more blogs coming soon!!

Luv,
Rachel

The waves were thrashing along the shore and you can tell from the drift wood that this is a regular occurance.
