This Qualmark 4 star hostel was the local Marist Brothers' Residence in the 1930s. The ex-Catholic building is full of character and ambiance and offers clean, secure, friendly and comfortable facilities to the long term travelers or holiday makers.
Kainga-ra YHA is nestled amongst the bush-clad hills overlooking the township of Greymouth. On the side of a steep hill, the hostel boasts fantastic views of the mouth of the river and the sea. You can even catch a glimpse of Mount Cook or the Hector Dolphins from the nearby wild beaches.
The old chapel has been converted into a fun mixed bedroom and the study into the lounge. Feel free to play the piano or guitar, dive into one of the comfy sofas and enjoy one of the many books or magazines available in the extensive hostel library. Catch up with your favorite video in our cozy T.V. room.
