Well last night we arrived in Queenstown around 5.30ish, after leaving around 8 in the morning. Long day on the bus as you can imagine, which was not helped by the fact we had THE most boring bus driver in the world, for the 3rd day running. The guy has the most monotone voice ever, and just goes on and on about rubbish! Like Tree's and history, but really dull stuff that I couldnt care less about, and he tends to repeat the same thing again and again. Oh AND he's really strict on time (though he's always late) and someone was still in the cafe we stopped at (in the middle of nowhere) when everyone else was got on the bus, and he left them behind! I was just like is he serious?! He honked his horn and drove away .. saying they'd have to find another bus to get on! What a tosser. So this poor guys bags and everything are on the bus ..I hope he had enough cash on him. God knows when He'll get them back. Rant over. Lol.
So nothing to report much yesterday (the 6th) other than the bus. It was absolute hell
booking accomodation in Queenstown as its the Winter Festival and we got the last beds in the hostel we're in. Though we have to all stay in seperate rooms on the last night, but its a bed. Some people apparently have to go into Hotels cause there's like nothing available. Ouch. When we got to Queenstown, after eating etc, we got ready to go out. I decided to introduce ring of fire to everyone which got RATHER Messy. That game is awesome, but it almost was the death of me. Anyway we headed out, absolutely plastered, and nearly didnt get in the place. I got refused at the bar aswell in teh 2nd place so everyone else had to buy my drinks. That's the 3rd time out this week ... which I know is far too much. I'm done now with it. Feel terrible this morning. Not hungover as such (well maybe a little) but like I dont know ... Short of breath and Just totally drained. Not good. Today I'm doing the Shotover Jet which should be fun (provided I dont chuck up last nights drinks) and the others have gone Ice skating. Just had a look around Queenstown
which is amazing, my favourite place in NZ by far. There's lots of nice and quirky little shops, and its really small. It's a little resort town but so pretty as its just surrounded by the moutains and snow and stuff. The views are just stunning. There's a real buzz about the place too. Wish we were here longer. Tomorrow I'm going Skiing. Hope i dont break a leg as I'm not insured for Winter stuff. But real excited for that ..Never done it before. Bring it on! :D
UPDATED PART : Well after leaving the Internet, I went on the Shotover Jet, which was really good. It was a bit steep at 110 dollars to be honest, and doesnt last all that long, but I did enjoy it. Its a jet boat, that goes through like a canyon (?) dodging rocks and stuff, though they get extremely close! Sometimes a little too close, adn you wonder how the hell you're going to make it off the thing alive. But it was good fun. Apparenrtly a driver on it has to have 240 hours of training before they're allowed to take any passengers out and I can see why!
Good laugh though, and the 360 degree turns were ratehr impressive too. Would recommend it ..Despite the cost.
After that I got chatting to the guy who drove me back to the centre of town, and he said it was worth checking out Queensland Gardens, so after abit of shopping (or browsing should I say) I went to them and had a bit of a walk around. I saw where the otehrs did Ice skating, which I wanted to do but was doing the JEt instead, but wasnt that disappointed as I thought it would be like a big outdoor rink but it didn't look anything too special. Im sure they enjoyed it nevertheless. On the night we all had Lasagne which was quite nice, and then watched The Exorcist. I remember watching it a few years ago at someones house at like 3 in the morning when we were all drunk, so although Id seen it, didnt remember a thing. It wasnt too bad. Not so scary now as the effects are a little outdated, but still a good film. I though the priest in it though had a surname that sounded very similar to Carys, which I
didnt like at all, cause some possesed girl was like screaming something that sounded like my name! But other than that, it was alright.
Today .. the 8TH .. we went Skiing. It worked out Mega expensive, well um .. 125 for our beginnner pack which was 2 X 1.5 hour lessons, and our ski's and poles and boots. On top of that we rented the pants so we didnt get soaked or hurt whne we'd fall which were 30 bucks, and it cost us 20 to get there and back. So not a cheap day, but definitely worth it. I loved it. I think a Skiing holiday is definitely on the cards someday. Hopefully not too far off. But I also need to go on a big boozy holiday some time soon (before I get too old) aswell as do some Volunteer work in like Africa or something, and I want to go to LA, then work down from there and Travel South America. How cool would that be! Brazil, Argentina etc. Or If I ever get good.. I could even work a ski season. Fancy myself as a bit of Snowboarding Chick. That'd be pretty fun. So
yeah ..basically I never want to work. That's not so bad is it? And now.. back to reality. Lol. Skiing was good. We only had our 1st lesson out of the 2 because, it was reeeally basic and we thought the 2nd one would be abit of a waste of time seeing as we only had the day. He'd taught us all the basics and we'd mastered them now so We spoke to our instructor and said in our dinner break we'd been on the slope and knew how to brake properly (kind of..some of the group still hadnt got it) and had taught ourselves how to turn (Which we were covering in the next lesson) so he agreed it was pretty pointless joining the group and we could go off and do our own thing. He did call me his Star Pupil though ..thought Id just slide that one in. Really I think we should have just got a day pass, rented the equiptment, and got Rachel (Stan) to teach us the basics, as she's done it 4 times before or so, adn it would have been a lot cheaper probably.
Today was probably the best day yet.
So We hit the slopes and did our own thing, and skiing is so much fun. I'd like to give snowboarding a go one day too, but I think I should master this one first, adn not get toocarried away. Lol. We was eventually ready to face a big (well to us anyway) slope, that we had to get the chairlift up to, which is an experience in itself..especially with Ski's on ..trust me. Anyway , that proved a step too far, as Rachel glided down it fine, me Hol and Will all ended up on our asses. I did it in style though and was going extremely fast and just wasnt slowing down depsite my best efforts, with the cliff edge fast approaching. And NO ..there was no barriers! In desperation, as seeing the terrified people watching on, and my life flashing before my eyes I jumped back and sat on my ass in an attempt to slow myself down, but it wasnt as effective as hoped! Instead I just slid down on my back, still really fast ..the edge fast approaching! Hollie and Rachel thought I was going to die! I did too for a minute! I managed
to stop, luckily, though it was all VERY traumatic!! Other than that though, it was great!
That's all for Queenstown, and tomorrow (Wednesday) we leave and go to Dunedin, where we are for just one night. We arrive in the afternoon and shall probably just have a walk around and then we're going to Cadburys world there! Come on! Lol. Been looking forward to that for ages. Afterwards Im not too sure the exact plans, though running very, very low on cash, so probably not too much. I shall try keep my blog more up to date from now on! All my love x
