Arrived in Nelson at around 3 in the afternoon only to find that it was a 45 minuite walk to the hostel which with the warm day that it was wasnt the most plesent of experiences. Had a walk around the part of nelson which i was staying in, i cant remember what the suburb was called but it was near to the beach. i stopped and watched a local rugby game for around 30 mins continued my walk and then headed back to the hostel where i met paul, who was a charector to say the least. Paul was 45 and a kiwi and it was obvious he had been living in the dorm room of this hostel for quite some time, he obviously off his head on something other than the beer he was stumbling around with in his hand and when he intrduced himself with a 10 minuite long story about how he had "took some goo LSD on tuesday and wrote a song" offering me the chance to read the lyrics or hear him play it which i politely declined and how he "would still be living in LA and would be a famous rock star if it wasnt for my kids" i politely as i could nodded along hoping that he might just shut up and leave me alone and when he did i made a quick escape after firstly making sure all my bags were securely fastened to the bed post. the hostel had sky and so i was able to watch the rugby without having to go to the pub which was a bonus and then watched a film in the evening before going out for a few drinks with pip who i had met at the hostel. im not going to complain but in a city centre in england im sure you would be hard pushed to get into a busy nightclub on saturday night without having proper shoes on, however in NZ everywhere seems more than happy aslong as you have flipflops on, they dra the line at bare feet. anyway was kind of shit and so we never stayed out that long and then tried to walk back to the hostel, only to get lost and then end up getting a taxi an hour later, but never mind.
The following day i was up pretty early and set of walking into town which took about an hour and then had a short walk around before having some lunch in a nice little cafe, monkfish stirfry made fish caught that day, which was awesome. being a sunday not much was open so a quick trip to the supermarket and then walked back to the hostel. Later on when th tide was in i went for a swim in the sea, not for to long though as the water was pretty cold. quiet night in watching some tele and then an early night, another early morning and a long bus journey in the morning.
