A 12 hour day trip to Milford sound is apparently one of the highlights of New Zealand, so we booked on, and it was!!!!
We set off on a long coach journey down to Milford at 7am and basically enjoyed the scenery, stopping off at various points along the way for photos. We also got to pass through the Homer Tunnel which was dug out of the mountains years ago, very impressive.
We arrived at the boat at 12.30 and were given a free lunch and a brew before we set off. The boat journey was just under 2 hours through the fjordland and was absolutely spectacular. It was really cold, but i spent most of the time on top deck, as did most people. We got a really good day, nice sunshine, and just a bit of low mist, making it look even better. I think everyone took hundreds of photos, everything was worth a picture. We were also lucky enough to see lots of dolphins swimming along with the boat, and lots of seals, doing nothing much.
The boat eventually made it out into the Tasman Sea, where it got very choppy, but it was just
a quick trip out before turning round back through the fjordlands.
It was definitely one of the best trips i've been on, and is pretty much a must do for New Zealand. You were on the coach for a long time, but it wasn't boring because of the sights on the way. Definitely a recommended trip for anyone visiting New Zealand.
We arrived back in town around 7pm, and altho it was a long day i fancied a couple of pints, so went out and met a few others, and the 2 pints quickly turned into me being the last to leave the club at 4am after consuming far too much ale and a few too many teapots! Very good nightlife around Queenstown.
