HI ALL!
Been a scarce thing this internet... it's a bit nice actually! But, managed to get al these photos up for ya.
We left Christchurch last week (actually, we have totally lost track of days and dates, but we think it was Thursday) and headed to Lil & Steven's in Sumner (a short way out of Christchurch). We had a lovely dinner and stayed the night in their cozy place overlooking Sumner beach. Had a nice walk up the hill in the morning and were able to photograph some flowers and cacti! yay.
We headed towards Hanmer Springs (inland) and, of course, got sidetracked by a beautiful view and ended up just parkin' Sally on the side of this lake, cookin' dinner and stayin' there the night. Wonderful. We continued towards HS and when we arrived, QUICKLY agreed we didn't want to stay so made a quick exit. Headed back towards the coast to head up to Blenheim and ended up stopping in Kaikoura... kinda haven't left! We immediately fell in love with it. We've been sleeping in Sally next to the beach, swam with wild dolphins, kayacked with seals, hiked the cliffs, repeated our sunscreen/sunburn/aloe process
several times, swam in the wild waves, cooked loads of wonderful food, met a few fun people and basically just relaxing... something we both needed! It's a beautiful place here! We love it.
Overall this country is stunning... the weather changes, which is a nice difference from Ireland. We are finding it a bit difficult to meet locals and hope that when we get up north, that will start to change. The locals, so far, are not as outgoing as we're used to, but still we're having fun!
We are doin' a climb tomorrow morning and then headed north!
Hope you are all well :)
smiles, Jess, Gary & Sally

Dont worry about not meeting locals. The south island has a very sparse population compared to the north. There is 2 million on the south compared to 4 million on the north.
Keep having fun and see you soon.
