PoserLiterally...I look better posing then actually skiing!!!
Day #6: Skiing at Cordrona
The day started out pretty interesting...it was our first day with "Sunny" our rental car. (We didn't even name the car, it is the actually name of the model!) We hope she is a sign for good weather :) Because I was the only one with experience of driving on the opposite side of the road I was the designated driver up to the ski fields. Piece of cake right?? Well if you ignore the fact that I have in the past had panic attacks while being a passenger during drives up mtns, then it would be no problem!! But I pushed aside my fears and slowly but surely drove up to the twisty gravel roads and ignored the fact that those drop offs were pretty far down... and we finally made it and gathered our group of Australearn kids together(Jen and Natalie were the boarders and Laren, Shelly and I stuck to skiing)
Then the next obstacle occurred…strapping on skis and trying to gracefully glide down the slopes. It had been four years since the last time I had done this and although I was very confident that I’d pick
it up again…and I’m not gonna lie I was a little worried when I approached the first lift line…flashbacks of falling and sore muscles flashbacks were filling my head. With the encouragement of Shelly (has more experience in the snow and she is from Florida), and Lauren(an awesome skier who tends to favour the double black diamonds) and took off down my first run. And hey guess what it wasn’t too bad…not saying it was very pretty but I managed to not be a danger to myself or others around me..yeah!! The three of us attacked the mtns together with Lauren as our guide…she wasn’t to mean only one trip off the beaten track. Even though, the snow was icy and the sun hide itself most of the day behind clouds it was still a really great time. So I did it…skied the mtns of NZ…not always very gracefully but still I made it out without to many bruises or sore muscles so that’s a plus!!!
But just when you think you can relax another challenge occurs…
There were no probs driving down the mtn to Wanaka or finding the Purple Cow, our hostel for the night, it
only came when we realized there were no openings for all of us to stay together. So after some deliberation we decided to still stay and meet our roomies for the night. What a night it was…I fell asleep to my two Asian male roommates, who did not speak good English so I never figured out where they were from, stretching each other and watching a snowboard video!!! And I woke up to the one of the most annoying snoring sessions I have every heard. And anyone who knows me knows how I HATE snoring…it is one of the most frustrating things ever…Thank God for I-Pods…it was my savior, haha!!
Well I survied another day of travel and I can only imagine what I have waiting for me during the next week!! So until the next entry Cheers!!
Luv,
Rachel
