Week 1 of road trip on the South Island:

Picton - entry point by ferry. didnt stay long
Golden Bay - northwest tip of the south island. came here for hiking and the beach. it POURED the whole time basically. Matt got bitten by sandflies AT LEAST 50 times this week. His ankles were swollen and we were both itchy and angry.
Abel Tasman National Park - walked the first 8k and the last 2k.
Marahau - stayed at Old McDonald's farm with the llamas and cows. LOTS of sandflies, one of the most beautiful sites.
Nelson - stayed here to get a night in a small city - movie theater, rugby game, out to dinner at a mexican/indian restaurant. Met some cool locals who took us to the bars with all the good local beer.
