Yesterday I spent the day in Golden Bay. It was pretty sweet. There is this beach with windswept sand dunes and rocks on the beach with caves that went through them. I also went to the Farewell spit, but that was pretty uneventful.

Today I woke up at 8 and got to Abel Tasman at about 10:15. I waited until about 11:15 for the aqua taxi that was supposed to come at 10:45 before giving up on that and heading in on foot. That park is amazing. I hiked for about an hour through tree ferns, ferns, and green trees over a hill and arrived at a small beach where a spent about 15 minutes clamboring on some rocks before continuing on. I made it to Mutton cove and turned around. On the way back I stopped at a small secluded beach and rested for about 15 minutes watching the birds playing 20 feet above me. Then I headed back to my car. When I got back I took off my boots and walked on the beach. The sand is made of orange and white crystals that massage your feet when you walk on them. It felt so good after a 4 hour hike. Then I jumped in the water which was brisk and refreshing. I think the water was slightly warmer than Tahoe. I didn't stay in long, but I was glad I jumped in.

Then I drove to Picton and caught the 10:25pm ferry to Wellington. I'm sitting in the hostel because I can't sleep. its 4:40 am here. I slept a little on the 3.5 hour ferry ride so I think that screwed up my internal clock. On the drive between Nelson and Picton I saw a Kiwi in the middle of the road. It was the first on that I've seen.

I'm going to Te Papa today and then driving to Coramandel.
