Hole in one placeYou stand on the edge of the lake and try to get a hole in one for a prize
Well it's another rainy day here in gorgeous New Zealand, although it feels more like i'm in Ireland at the moment. New Zealand is also very green for a reason it would seem. We had to move rooms so we moved our stuff and made some breakfast. The rain lightened up a bit so we went for a walk down to the lake but couldn't see much thanks to the clouds so we walked back in to town and found a small movie theatre just as it really started to pour so we ran in and paid to see the only movie playing at 11 am which was Year one. Not a good movie but it kept us entertained while it rained. It wasn't raining when we left but it was still cloudy.
Walked to the Info center and got some postcards, found a coffee shop and had a coffee and ran back to the hostel because some big dark clouds were coming. We got home just in time and made some dinner. Guess what we did tonight...... watched another movie haha. You can borrow dvds from the hostel and watch them on your laptop.
Some people have been
asking me some questions about New Zealand so I will try to answer some of them and just tell you general things i've noticed here.
In Auckland at some main intersections downtown they turn all the lights red and pedestrians can walk through the intersection any way they want, diagonally, however you want. Pretty interesting but good for pedestrians.
Everything is quite expensive here. Food especially. A bottle of water will run you about 3 NZD. Fruit is expensive as are vegetables unless you go to markets on the side of the roads and stuff. Bananas cost like 2.89 a kilo I think. I bought a mandarin orange and it cost me 1NZD.
Kiwi fruit is the cheapest fruit you can buy. Avocados are grown here and they taste AMAZING. One of my fav vegetables now.
The beds in dorms here tend to be pretty crappy. You can usually feel the metal or the wood underneath you as you sleep. Pillows are usually paper thin. Depending on the hostel they cram more beds in a room then they should.
Yes, New Zealanders call themselves Kiwis as well.
It's very multicultural here, lots of asian
hole in one againTiger Woods caddy has a holiday home here and Tiger has played at this hole in one place but failed!
communities are here as well. It's very common to see Thai and indian restaurants everywhere. Lots of chinese symbols on buildings and things.
Hours of work in the cities are monday to friday 9am to 5pm so not much different.
Ketchup here is called Tomato sauce and tastes different, kind of like they put cinnamon in it. Not as good as ours.
They don't usually serve hot dogs or sausages with hot dog buns. They will usually just give you a slice of bread. Weird. I've seen hot dog buns here but they are not cheap and not easy to find haha.
Hopefully I answered most of your questions, if not keep asking!!
