So, just a quick pit stop in Napier before heading off further North. It's quite a way from Wellington, so an early start again. More scenic stop offs at waterfalls and the like, but a cracking stop at the Tui Brewery. Now, it was still morning, but part of the deal was you got 3 pints for $2 which is ridiculously cheap. You are only given 45 minutes to finish them, so no hanging around. Me & Roy were bored for the last 20 minutes having quaffed our quota and refusing to pay for more. Good stuff tho, the lager is shocking, but the dark ale is great!
We arrived in Napier around 3pm and checked in. Straight back out for a look. Really nice seaside town which was destroyed in the 30's by a huge earthquake, and was totally rebuilt, so now everything is art deco. Most of the buildings look great, but a lot are hidden behing whacking great Burger King or Starbucks signs, which kinda takes away the artistic edge.
Back to the Hostel later, and most were planning a quiet night in watching DVD's......... as it was mainly a group of girls, the films on
offer were shockers, so i kindly declined their offer and retreated to the safety of a nearby boozer for a couple of Guinness and some live music. They were still watching some god awful tearjerker when we got back, so i caught the end of it, followed by the usual "all men are so and so" talk.
Nice place, but not too much going on, so only the one night and off up to Lake Taupo in the morning!
Absolutely superb!!!!!That is up there with Tans-a-lotty, Abra-Kebabra and Schindler's Lifts as business names go...
