From Napier we headed West across to Palmerston North for one night. Had a nice swim at the aquatics centre the next morning the spent a few hours at the All Blacks Rugby Museum and local history museum. Pouring with rain when we left Great late lunch at the Horsemans Cafe in Shannon. Stopped raining by then. Short run into Levin a nice old town an hour north of Wellington. Stayed on a farm for a few days and helped with some weeding and laying a giant mosaic path . There are 2 ponies, 3 sheep, 10 cows, 7 goats, 2 dogs, a cat, endless views of the mountain range and wonderful piece and quiet ☺... read more

Some more rain in the night but it did fine up in the morning. We took E & S and their cousin Isobel to Levin’s Adventure Park for the morning. We treated ourselves to some Kiwiana for morning tea; custard squares and lamingtons. After the playground, it was off for a game of mini golf, a quick lunch and sad farewells as we said goodbye to family. Our new destination was New Plymouth to visit one of Neil’s sisters, Vicki, and her husband John. We also had to stop for ice creams on the drive. Neil wanted to savour a flavour he had forgotten all about while living in Canada; Boysenberry. Delicious! We arrived in New Plymouth in time for a delicious NZ feast Vicki had prepared for us; roast lamb, roast vegetables (potatoes, kumara, parsnip), ... read more

How i failed to use this classic greenday track as a title is a mystery to me especially as it was the first song i ever learned on bass and i've got something in the region of 170/180 hitches since i've been here. Anyway, So Richard, myself and his friend Sean spent a few days in Auckland. An otherwise pleasant time was punctuated by rain, rain and rain. Auckland is a nice enough place but there are few cities where you can have a good time for very cheap in the rain. But the guys came to Kahikatea so see my digs, and we went to the museum etc it was fine and the guys seemed to enjoy it. As for myself, i'd put so much effort into doing the cafe at the festival i was ... read more

I have just spent an enjoyable hour practicing staff, during which i thought i would play some music. The three five week old kittens i live with (i'll come back to that), however, do not like dub at all and cowered under Alex's rather expensive sofa. Affronted by their reaction i tried speed metal, but this seemed to go down worse and i was probably at this time that the black and white one evacuated her bowls on the cover placed over Alex's rather expensive sofas for that reason. Why was i played Slayer at kittens? Because the little bastards had chewed up my rather expensive and good headphones the previous night rendering them useless. I was unfortunately aware that playing slayer at kittens probably violated the blood pact i went into when i became a ... read more

Sunday Alex took us to see the local countryside and the school where he works, which was very nice and relaxing. It was good to have a day where we did very little, life has been so hectic for the last few weeks its was the first day i didn't feel like i had to do things and go places, which is especially good because i am coming down with the world's most slow moving cold. Monday ALex went to work and Danielle and i were supposed to catch the bus to wellington to go looking for jobs and places to live, but we didn't make it out the house in time so ended up hanging out in sunny Levin. Another relaxed day where we went to see Ratatoulie at the world's quietest and nicest cinema ... read more

I passed out real early on thursday night. But before i did i wandered around South Aukland a bit and stumbled upon a zine-fest (as you do) which was nice, but i was too fried to make conversation with the wholesome-looking kids there. Friday, up at 6.30 (I'd been awake since 5 anyway) and got the train to Levin (where Alex lives). Met an awesome gay girl called Danielle on the way and had a proper conversation for the first time since i left the UK. The landscape is kinda like the Lake District but with lots of small hills rather than less big hills (this part anyway). Alex house is amazing and i get to stay in HUGE bed :) Saturday went to Wellington at 9 (I'd been awake since 5.30) to take a look ... read more
